Giving EPO injection

On D day I get my EPO injection, I was waiting to receive the injection and when I asked the nurse she told me the neph had cut the Friday injection and I asked her why and she said that hemoglobin was high, I told yeah I noticed that to when I looked at the lab sheets.  At least its minus one injection.

it is funny how you can deal with the big needles and fear the little ones.    Same here!!  well, i actually hate and fear both, i am willing to do hubbys cannulation, but to stick him for his insulun.. YIKES!!  he asked me to do it for him just to get me used to 'sticking' him..lol, and i squeeled like a piggie and nearly ran out of the room,, YET, i can have my face five inches from the cannulating process now, and not even feel ill.   I also can handle blood taken from me, but a flu shot..nearly hit the ground..DAng, humans are weard..

I honestly find it to be more tolerable if I give myself the Epo shot.  The nurse just jabs it straight in.  I turn bevel up and gently slide it into my skin hardly even feeling it.  I also use two different needles, one to draw up the drug and one to poke.

you have to draw it up?  Can you not get it in prefilled syringes?  I think I still have some in the fridge that are expired...

I slowly beginning to tolerate the Epo injection because its the same nurse that gives it to me. I am not sure how I would react to a different nurse giving it. Before I started D I would go to the neph's office for the Epo injection and she nurse would jammed that needle very hard every time. I know there are very good nurses that try to make it comfortable as possible and some that have an evil streak.

Tell them you want to be moved to aranesp.    Same company and relatively the same price, upside for most is only one injection every couple of weeks.

BigSky, My husband does the Mircia an off shoot of epo,  he only has to do it once a month.
