Did some laundry, "cooked" dinner in the crock pot, had lunch with a friend, finished reading the book for my book club tomorrow night and had a "date night" with DH doing a mystery shop at a local ice cream place.  Not a bad day.   :yahoo;

What's past is prologue

« Reply #1426 on: May 22, 2013, 03:03:43 AM »

Gah, I'm always in the pressure cooker this time of year it seems. Half-term starts this Friday but of course the boys have a crucial street dance rehearsal Friday night for their first major performance the following week. We are so late with Dyl's dinosaur project, but last night we got the papier mache mask fully built (it had to be done in stages) with the Dyson Hot pointed at it to dry it out (luckily the Hot can be turned to cool 8)) Dyl chose a parasaurolophus (of course he did, he's Elliot Dylan, the former 3-year-old who spoke to an employee at the Field Museum like a colleague). I am worried the crest will collapse and hoping that what we read about papier mache being remarkably durable is actually true. Not too true, though, because we do have to trim a bit to make room for him to put his head inside, plus I'm sure he'll want holes for the eyes. We have to paint it and he'll have to write up what he knows about the dinosaur, and then we can hand it in hopefully tomorrow but Friday at the latest. Yesterday Gwyn was quite ill with the mystery condition that crops up every 6 months or so - doctors suspect it's a gallbladder issue but they can't find anything. So, he was trying to work from home whilst I cleaned both bathrooms, did piles of laundry, tried to get a grip on the forms that I need to fill in for these new schools where the boys will go next year., walked them to choir practice, and eventually made dinner. I stupidly am allowing Dyl to have YET ANOTHER birthday party. Why couldn't I just stick to the "invite 2-3 friends to go do something low-key" rule that I have enforced with Aidan for years? This is his 3rd year in a row with a birthday party. I have to get the deposit to the stables, give a final guest count when I'm still awaiting a reply from 2 guests, order food, a cake, arrange decorations. Trying to decide if it's worth it to order M&Ms with Dyl's picture on them, probably won't be enough time to get them here before the party.

Today I've put dry laundry away and started hanging up the wet clothes as room becomes available, bought yellow paint because Dyl has decided that that dinosaur was a pale yellow, paid school dinners through to the end of the school year, dropped off a giant load of towels for the cleaners to wash, and I'll be volunteering in a few hours. I'll be supervising the mask painting tonight, and time permitting, taking the boys outside for an hour or two to practice their street dance routines. The teacher says their group is the only one who are not proficient in these dances and she has demanded that they all practice for several hours at home.  :P We want to go away for the bank holiday weekend but have no place booked yet and will probably just have to stay here.

Seriously, cariad, there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING low-key about m & m's with the kid's picture on them. Honestly, the stables are over the top enough!

Stay home, take the kids to the park with soccer ball and call it good.  Buy some good wine for you and hubby, get some over-the-top ice cream cake for a picnic lunch, and stop stressing.  Those are called stay-cations now, and they're all the rage....

Oh my! This is exactly what I needed to hear. Why do I go stark raving bonkers every single year? Anyhow, greetings, my fellow earthlings! I have returned! Thanks, jbeany!

This, too. We were going to stay in one of my brother-in-laws rental flats in Wales so we could go panning for gold at Dolaucothi, but they have a tenant moving in this weekend. They offered their home as they will be away, but I've told Gwyn I wouldn't be comfortable with that. Cheapest place I could find is 200 quid PER NIGHT. I think we'll be taking a few day trips like we did last bank holiday weekend, and generally enjoying the chance to do nothing at all. (Two bank holiday weekends in May? Can we not space these out better, Britain?)

Our major accomplishment yesterday: We finished the dinosaur mask, painted to little Dyl's exact specifications (we all helped but the concept was his). It's actually more of a hat, but it's been turned in and not a moment too soon. Teacher was acting well impressed.

Going to clean, fill out some forms for schools, get some returns out the door, write a few letters if I can, and then go collect Dyl. Aidan has a little disco to attend which will be excellent warm-up for the hours of street dance I will have them practicing before dinner. :cheer:

You rock, cariad!!!  What an awesome mom you are.  Enjoy every minute of the craziness, because it goes too fast.  My boys are 21 and 24 now, and I so miss the days of school projects, sporting events and birthday parties!  I am not sure how I would have handled everything if I had been going through these medical issues when they were young.  My accomplishments for today seem rather minimal compared to yours, but I did manage to clean the kitchen and finish mowing the grass.  Getting ready to make dinner so it's ready for us while I am on D tonight.  I am happy to get anything done lately lol!  Keep up the good work!  You are doing an amazing job!

Today I am so tired I can barely move.

So I went to work and I worked my ass  :sir ken;  off:
1. Worked with  the kids and got 25 kids finished with major Language Arts project. HAve 5 kids who still owe me pieces.
2. Cleaned out 5 notebooks, three file boxes, and 2 teacher file areas.
3. Sent four large full boxes of trash to the dumpster.
4. Did Writer's Showcase Contest booklets (Thank God for Maria S. at work, she copied them for me. The copier and I had a run in early this morning.)  Sent them to teacher's to give to students after looking up teacher names and labeling all of them.
5. Cleaned out my large storage cabinet. I have a few things left and empty containers.
6. Organized projects with individual kids.
7. Grade all 25 projects.
8. Did awards for math classes.
9. Put grades into the computer.
10. Filled out parent reports for students.
11. Made a list of things to do tomorrow on my white board.

Every thing I cleaned up turned up more stuff to clean up.  Good God!!!

Tuesday - stayed late at work to print up judgments for the 30 - count 'em - 30 cases from my division that the judge is supposed to hear Friday between 9 and noon.  (Along with a dozen arraignments and 3 other civil division cases. I wasn't working Wednesday to balance hours for working all day Friday, so I thought I'd make sure I was well prepared to catch up on Thursday, which is the day I usually devote to printing up judgments.

Wednesday - attended the class with the pro bono clinicstudents to hear the guest lecturers and get both of them to give me fliers for their particular legal aid specialties.  I can then hand these out to the people who come to the counter at court, instead of trying to explain what Legal Aid and the Tenants' Alliance actually do and when and where they do it.  Went to lunch with a friend, and then went home and cleaned the house from top to bottom.  Made chili to put in my crock pot Thursday morning.  Made beer bread, veggie dip, a fruit tray, and sea salt chocolate chip cookies - some baked immediately, some dough for the fridge.

Thursday, got up almost on time, tossed the chili in the crock pot on low, and went to the clinic to volunteer for 3 hours before going to work.  Took a batch of cookies, and was alternately thanked or hated, depending on the diet plans of the person currently talking to me around a mouth full of cookie.   Scooted off to work.  Today was the day I would normally have spent 2 to 3 hours working on printing judgments between my normal duties.  Annnnnd the computer system was completely down.  Kaput.  No email, no nothing!  Soooooooo happy the darn things were already done!  Got to leave work on time, if only because I couldn't actually work on anything even if I stayed late.  Buzzed home, organized dinner. baked more cookies,  and had company come at 6:30.  Dinner was yummy and easy to set out.  Then we all played with polymer clay in my craft room for 3 hours.    My company left, and I wrapped up the remaining cookies and decorated the package as a host gift for my dinner invite tomorrow.

Now, off to bed in my clean house - well, except for the dirty dishes in the sink, but they aren't going anywhere!

Now I'm going to ignore my dirty dishes and go to bed to prepare for the crazy day tomorrow at court!

Since the sun has decided to go on vacation, but it's still warm, I thought I'd go for a walk.  I'm testing some new trackers on my phone, so depending on which one I used, I walked just above or just below 3kms in a little over an hour.  The only problem I had or have, depending on how you look at it, is that I didn't check the UV index for today until I got home.  Even with no sun, the index was high (forget the actual number) and I think the top of my head, where the hair is the thinnest, got burned.  I must remember to start wearing hats when I leave the house again.

... for a picnic lunch

She'll be lucky ... the weather forecast is rain, rain and more rain (with a little bit of wind and below average temps thrown in for good measure) this Bank Holiday weekend!

 ;D

I'm having a lazy-ish day as I begin my half-term break today.  I do need to get to the Post Office and the library, but I'm waiting for the bathroom man to come and fix my wobbly sink.  I'm still in my pyjamas; I hope he doesn't mind.

We got together for Memorial Day for a family member's birthday, at a park in Orange County, CA.
It was a beautiful day, lots of turtles sunning themselves and baby geese swimming in the pond.
We grilled hot dogs and ate cake.
Here's a photo of the fam.

It's my birthday, so I went and got my hair trimmed. *G*  While I was out, I got myself an ice cap, and then came home.  I'm now sitting on my bed, with the Sharpened Shadow taking a nap next to me

Riki, I can't think of a better way to celebrate a birthday than by getting a haircut.  Something about that is so therapeutic!  I got mine cut (after a six month delay) over the weekend, and I love not looking like the crazy woman at the end of the road anymore.  LOL!

I'm glad you enjoyed your day!  Have a wonderful year!  :2thumbsup;

Thanks guys.  I did have a good day.  I like walking around my little city, as much as I can, though.  Had supper with my parents, although my dad really needs to leave the computer off the table during meals.  I love that even though they're not together, my parents do get along really well.  I got a call from my brother, a card from my grandparents, and a virtual hug from Kelly.  All in all, a good day.  Oh.. and no surprise saline flush attacks from my fellow dialysis patients this year! Always a plus. *G*

I was up at 3:00 am to go out hunting turkey this morning. I stayed out until 9:00 then came home and finish repairing my utility trailer, drilled and bolted the plywood to the bed. ithen went and mowed the lawn. Candy wanted to go shopping, so we took the bike into town for walmart stuff and her chinese food. I am having a salad. I also pulled my boat out and started getting it ready for the season. Guess I can take a break now.

I asked a friend to go to the sculpture park with me next week.  He went to law school here for two years, and never managed to go.  He's back working here now, and I convinced him he should go see it - after all, it's only ranked in the top 100 art collections in the world....   Yay, I love showing off one of my favorite places to someone new!

Cleaning, laundry, hand washed some delicates, ordered Dyl's birthday cake, ordered the helium tanks for the balloons (ouch! £50!), ordered balloons, ordered a few gifts. Found a back-up shirt for Aidan to wear for his costume for his tap dance performance in case the t-shirt I ordered does not make it in the next 18 hours, and it looks like it won't.

Making iced tea now (it's a process) and then taking the boys outside to have them run through each of their dance numbers 5 times. Their show is tomorrow afternoon. *head explodes*
