I started my new job, which means I had to talk to new people.  Yikes!  And - even worse - I'm part of a support group and I work across two faculties so I had to stand up and wave to strangers when introduced on TWO occasions.  They seem a nice bunch, but it's a little overwhelming (the place is MASSIVE and I'm used to a cosy little building with very few staff).

Oh, and Blokey returned to work today, first day since transplant.  He's been home more than three hours and he's still awake!  This makes me happy.

That is wonderful news, Poppy!  :2thumbsup;

I finished "The Help" today, did a student orientation at school and did my last physical therapy session on my shoulders (not in that order!)  :2thumbsup;

School starts tomorrow. I don't think I'm ready to return to using the alarm.  :thumbdown;

Started my internship today!   :bandance; :bandance; :bandance;  It's going to be amazing - lots to learn and a great group of people to do it with.  I knew I was in the right spot when the conversation got around to the taxidermy bear torso that was sitting in a wing chair in the atty general's office when I swore my oath of service before him this morning.  Apparently, it's stray evidence from a poaching case.  It's still there because the big boss likes to stick a hat on it and include it in the audience for video conferences on occasion.  Oh, yeah, this is my kind of work environment!   ;D

Aw, Richard, you are too sweet! That's twice you've lifted my spirits today, my friend!

Quite literally all I managed today was to clean up the remainder of Christmas. Every year I wonder what weird place I'll discover pine needles in this time around. The little buggers are excellent at stealthily hitching a ride on whomever walks past, then hiding until mid-July....  :rofl;

I started cleaning up the garage today. I've been storing my dialysate boxes out there since I started and had a pile that was as tall as I was! So that's all bundled up and sitting on the curb for the recycler pickup tomorrow. Next step is cleaning up my workbench out there. Who knows, I might even get a chance to work on a wood project or two!

I spent time on the computer cleaning up my emails - very satisfying!!! It is hot here today (about 115 degrees F outside) and I only have a fan in the office so very brave of me! The air-co is in the front part of our house and the internet cable is about a foot too short. :(

I don't know if this applies but...

I organised a small gift of some crabtree & evelyn hand lotions for my Transplant Co-ordinator. I thought after a year of looking after me through my tx (and everyone else) she deserved a little something at the end of the year to recognise her efforts. I wrote a little note with it just thanking her for looking after all of us and always being available to help us out and sort stuff out.

Well I got an email today from her - she's supposed to be on holidays, but typically she wasn't really. She wrote:

Quote
Happy New Year to you and a big thankyou for my lovely present.  While I am on holidays officially,
I have called into work today to check on some new transplant patients we have done and found
your lovely gift on my desk.  that was very kind of you and unneccessary .  My rewards are to
see all of you doing well with your transplants and enjoying life.  I look forward to catching up
with you in clinic on my return.

That's very sweet, no?

Yesterday I sat in meetings for 4 and a half hours, hammering out two major documents, one for the state Attorney General's office.

The person taking all the notes and preparing the documents for submission e-mailed this morning that her computer did NOT save the changes.  :banghead; :banghead; :banghead;

What did I accomplish yesterday? Zilch!

Ah, well. It will all get done eventually.

Yesterday was laundry.  Today is my last official day of school break, so other than setting out books and packing lunch and dinner for tomorrow, I don't plan to do much at all.  I've got my internship from 8:30 to 5 tomorrow, although I'm going to have to leave early, because I have a class about the internship with my college dean from 5 to 6, and then class from 6 to 9.  The classes are on campus, 40 minutes away from my internship office.  If anyone has a Star Trek teleporter they could lend me for tomorrow, I'd really appreciate it!

Yeah but there's sh!*@#! that Shatner says....

(I know he's Canadian, but really.....  :rofl;)

Of course I could use a transporter too!!! It would save many hours on planes, but then all my FF miles would become worthless!!  Better cash in a few more ASAP!  :rofl;

I'd love a transporter... I can't afford to fly enough to rack up FF miles.. *LOL*

My friend Kelly, goes to an improv mixer on Tuesday nights, as a performer.  I'd like to just show up sometime, not tell her I'm coming, and surprise her.  I've always wanted to see her perform too

I took the boys to Griffith Observatory today! So great, for once our slowness paid off. We did not arrive until nearly noon, which I thought was going to be two hours after they opened but it turned out they did not open until 12PM so we had a few minutes to explore the grounds around the building, including the scale model of the solar system. We had the place more or less to ourselves. A guide was telling us all about the massive photo on the back wall showing millions of galaxies all within an area of night sky that can be covered by one's finger. (There is a statue of Einstein holding his finger up in demonstration.) Boys weighed themselves on the nine different scales in front of the planets. Saw a planetarium show (those things make me so queasy - had to shut my eyes for much of it) listened to an explanation of the pendulum at the entrance, Aidan asked a guide what a wormhole is and got a quick explanation. Read all about the Big Bang in their fantastic display along the ramp to the lower level. Your other option is the more direct Worm Hole Stairs, which Aidan and I found very clever. (Not sure L. understood.)

Saw the Tesla Coil operational, and the boys were let up to the front for a fab view. Found a telescope that was stuck in the open position and looked at the Hollywood sign. Saw the giant telescope on the roof and went for a stroll through Griffith Park, came upon a felled tree and had to navigate around it. (Griffith is atop a large hill, so was dangerous). Had lunch in the cafe and made it home without too much time wasted in traffic. Just as we arrived home we heard about the discovery of the largest cluster of galaxies yet, called El Gordo by the Chileans who discovered it. Thanks to the planetarium show, the boys knew what they were talking about when they mentioned the dark matter and dark energy in this cluster. Other than that, laundry, and a quick dinner of reheated pizza. Tomorrow I brave Knotts Berry Farm (where I hope to meet up with a certain IHDer....)

Dusted, vaccuumed, washing machine went whirly-spin-spin, scrubbed, Dance 2'd, juiced, online sipermarket shopped, threw some meat and veg into the slow cooker, showered, caught up with Buffy, got all competitive with galvo and am now relaxing before heading off to the pharmacy to pick up a bag full of meds.

Ran a few errands, lunch with a friend, my 1.5 mile way and now @ 4:30PM I think I'll dig back into the book I'm reading (and probably fall asleep during the read) ......... Called my brother and will try to call a friend before I go off for my nap ..... I mean, to read my book.   And later,  I'll do able an hour of cleaning around my place.  The high temperature today was 35 degrees.  I was dreading going out ........but when I did,  I thought "35 degrees isn't so bad ...".   Tomorrow,  I hope to see the movie Joyful Noise (I *think* it's been released....).   Supposed to be 30 degrees tomorrow.  I think I can "weather" it.  HA.

Did not really accomplish anything yesterday - a few errands last night - but had an amazing day. I met Lori Hartwell!  That was very cool, I remember first reading about her on the Internet back in 2001, so I feel like I already knew her quite well in a way. Very friendly, funny, tremendously sweet person.

I stupidly left my PFFlyers, my most stunning pair of shoes, the red leather high tops that people gasp over everywhere, up in Santa Barbara. We were going to head up to collect them yesterday, scare the boys into thinking we were coming to take them home (they so picture themselves moving in with my parents, living a life of leisure in one of the most gorgeous cities on earth). We decided to head to Topanga Canyon and I passed a shoe shop, had a quick look, purchased a pair of beachy shoes but no trainers or anything. I tend to find that one pair I love and don't want anything else.

So, then I decided I could go for a cup of tea. We were right in front of a Starbucks but I just couldn't. So we searched for a tea room and were within a mile of a little tea house. We popped in, no reservation, placed was jammed but they found room for us. This place has changed my life! I have not only found my tea of choice for life from their over 100 (!!!!!) varieties, the people who owned the place were an Australian and her English husband who had done years in the Aussie Army. They sat and chatted with us for an hour or two, telling us all about Oz, filling our heads with ideas on how we could indeed move there. Then, in a moment that sadly could only happen if we were in attendance, the kitchen staff pulled the owner away and we knew there was something very wrong, half the place was suddenly in tears. Our waitress had received word that her father had been found dead. So, we spoke to the owners about it for a moment, then in a very British (English) move, it was declared that he had had a great life and was not mentioned again.

As it was my first visit to the tea room the owner gave me a gift. A gorgeous compact engraved with a pair of pandas. This place was really special and Gwyn can periodically pop back there and keep me in tea for ever and ever. Yay!
