Too early today to do much (haven't finished my coffee yet!) but yesterday I did some shopping, went to the post office and the bank. Then my husband, the dog & I went to the park for a "picnic" dinner! Beautiful weather for sitting outside last night.

I should probably upload those pictures on facebook
Yes, you should - I want to see the giant potato!

I finished a jigsaw puzzle.
:yahoo;

I went to the hairdressers and actually spent the best part of 45 minutes having a conversation with her.  I am NOT a chatty person, particularly when I'm very aware that I'm right in front of me (the mirror) so this was a very BIG accomplishment.

Hi Poppy, glad you had a good time at the hairdressers. I went Monday, I keep trying to grow it but as soon as it gets to a certain level it drives me scranny, so I get it chopped.

*chuckles* ... we could turn it into a Secret Hairdresser competition and people could vote on which hairdresser did the best job!

But seriously, I could never be a hairdresser ... mostly because of the repetitive conversations, but also because I'd bodge it up.  I have no artistic flair and can't cut in a straight line to save my life.

Court this morning instead of the clinic class - oooh, sounds good.  One of the clinic law students was supposed to have an evidentiary hearing, complete with a nasty cross examination of a client's ex-husband.  The guy was even subpoenaed and didn't show, just his lawyer.  Oh, yeah, Counselor, try checking voice mail - the guy was in the hospital.  Court, we are adjourned.  Well, phooey.  I can't learn when there's nothing to watch.  They called off class two hours early, though, so I had a chance to get a law prof to look over my resume and cover letter.  Then another 5 hours in the clinic office, shuffling paperwork and dealing with anxious clients on the phone, and I finally got to come.  It occurs to me that I never actually had any lunch.  Ooops.  So, food first, then I just have to edit the changes to internship app and resume tonight and email it all in.

Then I'm going to bed really, really early!

Both doc and dentist appointments tomorrow.  Gee, fun.  I'll need the sleep!

I'm well impressed with that.  And as for the photos, well I spent several hours at the hairdresser's about a month ago. That's still recent in my books, as I only go to hairdressers about three times in a lifetime.  On average  ;)

Okay, I taught a full day of school but left when my kids went outside to play. Drove to the gym where I did an hour of water aerobics. Then back to school where I did a bit of cleaning while Carl finished up a parent/teacher conference. Then we went home and I fixed dinner, then BACK to school for a board meeting. Whew.

I had the munchies after the stress of the board meeting, but didn't want to ruin my diet progress, so got out some carrots! THAT was my big accomplishment.  :clap;

Off to see the wizard, errrr, surgeon today.  Nothing like a 2-1/2 hour drive for a 10 minute appointment.  But, I don't have to go see him again - everything is doing fine.  Hurray for all guts on the inside.  I officially have been warned off any exercise that is likely to make me fall down a lot.  Huh, guess I'm sticking to the treadmill, and skipping the roller skating party.  Ahh, well, I was never very coordinated anyhow, so I wasn't going to skate much anyhow.

My first internship application is in.  Keep your fingers crossed everyone - this first one is the one I want most - with the federal prosecutor!

What I haven't accomplished is moderating much on here - by the time I'm done with homework most of the time, I'm ready to shut the darn computer off and go to bed instead.

I managed to accidentally run my wool Ann Taylor pants through the wash AND dryer. The weird part is they look like they've survived. Won't know until I iron out the acetate lining and try them on. Once I realised I'd sent the wrong trousers (Wrong trousers, Gromit!! Wrong trousers!) sorry, once I realised, I expected to pull out something that looked like doll clothes, but they look the same. As it is, I bought these on a superb sale back when I was full-on anorexic, so they have not been that comfortable for a while. If they've shrunk even a speck, I think they'll be for the charity bin.

It was our day for snack for both Aidan and Liot's team. Yesterday I went to Costco to buy said snacks. Then I set up an assembly line using my children and husband as cheap labour - on one end, Liot opened the plastic snack bag, put the cheese and cracker pack in, Aidan put the pudding cup in, arranging it so that it would close, Gwyn added the plastic spoon and sealed the bag. They were a disgrace to Henry Ford, and I let them know it.  :rofl;

Our friends, who it turns out are incredible control freaks, are on holiday in another state. They wanted us to take their child home with us after soccer since he and Aidan are on the same team. They phoned last night, texted first thing this morning, then phoned AGAIN and Gwyn basically told them to stop obsessing and trust that we can coordinate with the babysitter without their constant "assistance".

Aside from surviving hours with an extra kid, I sorted out the pantry. Yeow, was that overdue. I had no idea we had half the tins and jars that were in there. It is now all tidied, but it looks like we are expecting the imminent collapse of civilized society.

Cariad, every time I read your posts, I get tired... *LOL*  I also lead an incredibly dull life......
Sadly, I've learnt that exhausting and interesting are really two entirely different things.  :laugh:

I loved reading about the potato museum! We have the Weird book series here, I assume there is one for each state, Weird Wisconsin, Weird California, etc. A potato museum would be an excellent find for all those people that live for those kitschy, roadside attractions.

Psssst: How about loading some pics on here??? :pics;

I accomplished a first for me today! Since I am now reduced to using a cane (temporarily, I hope!) I couldn't walk through the grocery store like I normally do. I took one of those electric carts.
And, for the very first time, I managed to go all through the grocery store without hitting anything or anyone!   :clap;

My first internship application is in.  Keep your fingers crossed everyone -
Done!

So far, all I have managed to accomplish today (aside from feeding my children, which only required use of a toaster!) is to send complaints to 2 different companies, Clif and GoGoSqueeze. We expect a swift and deeply apologetic response from Clif. This is always when one learns what kind of company these places really are.

Gwyn and I need our clothing tailored for Las Vegas. Yesterday, Gwyn brought 5 pair trousers and a suit jacket to the tailor round the corner. I was going to go with him, but decided to stay home and work on cleaning. So, he returns without the clothing and mentions as an aside that it is going to cost $20 PER PIECE!!! So, I say You mean to tell me that we are paying $120 for tailoring! To which he responds, Uh, no, the suit jacket is $30. Is that expensive?. I am SO glad I did not go with him. Thankfully, most of the clothing he brought along was extremely high quality and worth paying more to have it done right, but for one item (pants from Banana Republic) I would bet we are paying almost the same price for the tailoring as we did for the stupid pants. It turns out, this man spent decades honing his craft in his native Hong Kong before moving to, of all places, Milwaukee. And he moved shop to our little 'hood recently. Now that I've been warned, I'll only bring the two items for me - a magnificent skirt Gwyn bought me once that I've never worn because it's so long, and my red velvet pants. The rest - things from White House/Black Market et al. can just be done over at the dry cleaners for less than $10 per item.

I.. um... have yet to upload those pictures.   I'll do it in a bit, just so Poppy can see the giant potato. *LOL*

I did sweet FA today, and enjoyed it.. *LOL*

Yesterday, however, I spent 9 HOURS updating my ipod.  Two computers, two hard drives, one f-ing ipod.  It took me a few hours to make sure all my music was in itunes.  Finally, when the moment of truth came, I couldn't find the cord to plug the ipod into the computer.  I needed the USB cord, cuz for some reason, even though the computer has a firewire port, it told me that firewire wasn't compatible.  My mother and I searched my bedroom, thinking that I had dropped the usb cord behind my bed, since I keep all my cords in a remote caddy that hangs over my headboard.  It wasn't behind the bed, it wasn't underneath the bed.  It wasn't under the piles of crap all over my room.  I then realized that when I went to my dad's a few weeks ago, I took it with me, and lo and behold, it was still in the bag that I had brought all my stuff there in.  So, crisis averted, or so I thought.  I plugged the ipod in, and the sync began, but it was too quick.  When I checked, the 500 or so songs that had been on the ipod before were gone, and were replaced by 9 songs from the Colbert Christmas album.  I"m telling you, you cannot make this sh*t up.  I tried resyncing a couple of times, but there was no change.  I sat back for a few minutes, and thought about it.  There had been an error coming up when I tried the sync, that said "track 20"couldn't be copied.  I hadn't really paid much attention to it, cuz I didn't know what track 20 was.  I ran the sync again, just to get this message to come up.  There were over 100 songs listed, along with track 20.  What I had done was just add the songs to itunes from my external hard drive.  I didn't realize that once you unplug the hard drive, itunes has nothing to pull the songs from.  I copied all the music from my hard drive onto Mom's computer (I'm afraid to plug the ipod into my computer cuz it runs windows vista, Mom's runs windows xp) then cleared everything out of the itunes library.  I then added all the songs back into itunes.  I plugged the ipod in, and nothing happened.  I unplugged the cord from the ipod, plugged it back in, and again, nothing happened.  I was sure that my ipod was pooched at this point.  It's an old video ipod. It's nearing retirement.  I decided to run a diagnostic just to be sure.  The diagnostic kept telling me that it couldn't find a device connected.  I wasn't sure what else to do, until I looked down at the computer tower, and saw that the usb end of the ipod cord was laying on the floor.  I hadn't plugged it back in after moving all the songs off the hard drive onto Mom's computer.  I unplugged the hard drive, plugged in the ipod, and it synced right up.  I killed the battery in it this afternoon, reprogramming the playlists.  Mission accomplished.  I started at 4pm, I was done around 1am.  While letting the ipod sync, I rewarded myself by watching the new Star Trek movie on Netflix, through my Wii.

Worked on my craft stuff to sell, and made 3 different versions of candy bars - home cooked versions of Twix, Butterfingers, and 3 Musketeers.  Needed desserts to take to Gilda's on Tuesday, and can take some to the starving law students and law profs at the clinic tomorrow.  Still need to work on some clinic memos, so off to bed now so I can get up at the crack of dawn and work on them when I'm more awake - in theory.

Gwyn and my older son are at the baseball right now. My younger boy cannot tell time yet (or would never think to double check, I suppose) so I managed to get him to bed a half hour early. Sweeeeeet! He so needs the sleep, and just to prove I'm not a big meanie of a mom, I let him choose an extra story for me to read to him. He asked to sleep with the light on since his big brother isn't there in the room with him.

MAJOR accomplishment yesterday. I finally got off my arse and wrote a thank you/birthday card to a very special friend, and sent along a bottle of Marilyn wine that I've wanted to give him for forever. Gwyn and I bought it on impulse years ago when we got a bit past squiffy at a wine tasting and purchased a bottle. Why?? I honestly will never know. Neither one of us cares about Marilyn Monroe, and yes it is interesting for the bottle since they found a workaround for a law banning the use of nudity to sell alcoholic beverages (her clothes are removable labels), but beyond that, we are NOT wine collectors. As my boys get older, I have been asking myself which I would rather - give the bottle to a dear friend who offered me a kidney and who might enjoy that sort of thing, or come home one day and find that the boys have decided to peel off the labels, or open the wine and try it, or both. Trust me, I have heard horror stories from people who do have expensive liquor and teenagers in the same house.

So it is winging its merry way to California right now. I have wanted to do this for 18 months, and now it's finally, finally done!

I replaced the bulb in my car's dome light.  Not that it took long - it's just I rarely remember to do it when it's daylight, and I can't see to do it when it's dark enough to easily remember it needed to be done.

I bought the bulb several weeks ago.  My local auto part store's staff asked me if I needed help fixing my dome light.  I can't decide if I should be happy for such excellent customer service, or insulted they think I need help changing a light bulb.   :P

I think the biggest thing I did today was to go outside, walk across the yard, specifically to throw away the stack of Tim Horton's Iced Cappuccino cups that have collected themselves on my bedside table.  I had about 3 weeks worth of them, cups, lids, and straws. *L*

Last summer, just to see if I could do it, I didn't throw any of them out.  I had about 60 cups before I threw them away.

In retrospect, I probably should have put something in the picture for scale.. oh well

I got my haircut last Friday!  It's been over a year........ feel refreshed and look like myself again!   :flower;

Today:  I changed my bed.  Ran the laundry.  Found Halloween decorations, and put them around the house.  Defrosted flounder for tonight's dinner.  Wiped down all the window sills.  Made 2 important phone calls about getting Charity assistance to pay my ongoing medical bills, and another call for getting cheaper medical transport.  For a change, I'm getting things DONE!  Feels good.   :bandance;

I waddled off to Weight Watchers and was pleasantly surprised to see that I weighed exactly the same as this time last week.  This is despite the huuuuge Chinese take-away we indulged in at the weekend.

I went to class where my advisor was guest lecturer. There are about 20 people in the class, but I was one of the few who actually spoke. It was about biocultural models for capacity for compassion, and it was a great discussion, though as the professor (who strongly disagreed with me) said "so this is a contentious topic". I finally rang up Medicare to put an end to questions about whether or not they should be primary in my case. I have my answer for all time (well, until I get off Medicare with this go-round). Medicare Primary! End of story. Going to make myself a cup of tea before trekking off to my SAS computing course. Thursdays are rough, not helped by my long day down in Chicago yesterday. :P

I sorted out IHD names vs. real names and "think" I have it right.   I have had 2 members mixed up for a couple of weeks.  I was beginning to think they were one person!  But, I worked through all the pm's and emails and have sense of who will be in Vegas!!!!   Good thing I'm not the one doing the name tags.   That is all I got done today.

Cariad, you put me to shame!!  I couldn't keep up with you on your slow day   :rofl;

I managed to duck at least one politician who was campaigning in my neighborhood today.  The election is Monday, so they're putting in that final push.

I also took clothes in off the line, and even though I had to sit down halfway through, I think I did ok.
