Thanks, Jbeany.

I clipped the URLs to my organization file. NEED. TO. TAKE. A. NAP. now.  :rofl;

The books....ah, that is really Carl's problem. I'm good with taking them to a used book store. Carl, on the other hand feels the need to keep each of his old friends. We have several thousand!  :banghead;

Holy crap, I did a six-mile hike yesterday. I haven't hiked in over six years and have spent the last three sitting on my butt. I wasn't sure I'd be able to do it, especially given how crappy I've felt lately. But I did it!

Such a little unimportant thing, but it really felt like I'd accomplished something.

Remembered to shut all the bathroom and closet doors before I left this morning.  This is a good thing.  One of my new kittens was half soaked when I got home.  Because all the bathrooms were closed off, I at least know he was either in his water bowl or one of the two fish bowls.

Beats one of the two toilet bowls.

When at the doctor yesterday I was given the advice to set a goal that extends my "activity" a little each day. So, my goal for today was to dust 2 rooms. Whoopee! I met and exceeded that goal. But to be honest the third room was a gimme. And as a disclaimer, after getting half way through the first room I needed a one hour nap.

 :rofl; :rofl; :rofl;

Oh, I also boiled some eggs and made two phone calls. I'm a regular dynamo....  :bow;

Next thing you know, I'll be able to walk to the mail box to get the mail!

Baby steps, baby steps. I am getting a little stronger.

Had to buy Photoshop to compress my pictures. If anyone's interested, this is where we hiked on Sunday. It was in the mid-90s and we were the only ones who didn't run out of water! I don't think we'll get any more teasing about the size of our packs.

Well today went down and babysit for my sister. Then went to target and the grocery store then came back home to wait for my delivery. But it was yesterday that i did something I was proud of! I got over a fear! I needed to go up on the roof to fix a leak and I got over the fear of climbing up the latter and getting up on roof. Sorry to say I didn't find the leak but hey I did it!!!   :yahoo;

Worked the ususal 10 or so...then changed 15 gallons water in the saltwater aquarium...three fish..."Hobie, Red and Oreo" are much happier.  Along with some snails and peppermint shrimp.

Then it was time to sleep in my chair, and then go to bed.

I have been VERY productive, considering my limited physical stamina. I put together a chicken casserole (with squash, carrots and hearts of palm), made a batch of baked French toast so it is ready to slide into the oven in the morning, made a big batch of chicken salad, with grapes and celery, cleaned the bath-tub (I got the rest of the bathroom cleaned yesterday), did 5 loads of laundry, called Baxter to track down supplies for Hanify, made two quiches for tonight's dinner, put together a corn pudding casserole for tomorrow night's dinner, and took a nice long 45 minute nap.

Plus a bit of tidying here and there.

Now, I'm just waiting for the quiches to bake and the guests to start arriving. Marge, will get here from Atlanta first. Then Hanify from New Zealand with her family, and hopefully Mizar will join us for dinner tomorrow night. It is a regular IHD meet-up! We are going to have a blast! I'm glad I have all the food ready so I can just enjoy everyone!

I thought that I was going to do soooo much this week... I've taken a week off work because I had my fistula op on the 10th, turns out that I've done pretty well nothing much lol. So full of good intentions ... so little achieved. My bedroom looks like we've been ransacked after I emptied the wardrobe to de-clutter and decorate, then my energy left me and I still haven't finished it  :P I go back to work next Tuesday - so maybe I'll get to it before then... or not :rofl;

Cat proofed the bottom of my closet.  All the boots are safely stowed in closed boxes or tucked away in the big under-bed storage box until fall.  Put 3 pairs in the donate bin.  Now there are slots for all the remaining pairs in my shoe racks, safely beyond the reach of kitten teeth.  The way they both like to eat through leather, you'd think they were descended from the Donner family.

Annual "oil and lube" checkup appointment is over for another year, hurray.  :P

Also drove by a couple more possible houses.  Eh, no to both of them.  The one was a handyman special. And it was REALLY special. The other was fine, except it was so close to the freeway that it sounded like river rapids roaring by.  I suppose I'd learn to sleep through it eventually, but I'm not that ambitious.

I'll swap mine for yours ... my Mog likes to chew through electric cables; I'd much rather he was chewing through leather than something which could potentially kill him/me!!

I managed to clear my computer desk. I also walked to the shop and didn't buy anything yummy (aka fattening and gooey). Blokey managed to eat half a bowl of Heinz Tomato Soup: he's been ill for two days, so I've spent the last 48 hours going from panicky to angry to frustrated to tearful to panicky to ... *sigh*

What's past is prologue

« Reply #996 on: April 16, 2012, 08:24:56 PM »

I am fairly wrecked from this past weekend. Hosted a playdate with my Liot's two best friends and their two older brothers. I had the entire house clean except for the guest room (which no longer has a bed in it since Gwyn took it to CA and has become more of a storage room), the office (papers everywhere) and my bedroom. The boys helped me clean but Aidan neglected to mention that he "accidentally" vacuumed up what looked like an entire box of tissues, so as I was hoovering the front lounge, the stupid dyson starts upchucking dust everywhere. This was about 10 minutes before everyone arrived. Luckily, these are two very cool moms who wouldn't know how to be impolite if they tried. We had a great time. Aidan was off at his best friend's for the friend's birthday sleepover. One of the moms brought beers, so we drank a six-pack between the 3 of us. The boys (and one girl) tore through the house, and there were disputes and a bit of whining here and there, but it all went off famously in the end.

The next morning I had agreed to take Liot to a school friend's birthday party. I was dreading it, and for good reason. The mother invited everyone by phone, and when I asked what we could buy her son J as a present, she said don't worry about a gift, that he will just be so excited that Liot will be attending. She then stated "he says Elliot is best friend". (Gah. I had never heard this boys name before.) We arrive at the party, which is at their house (usually a really bad sign - most parents just rent a party place like one of those bouncy slide places so that at least the kids will be entertained the whole time). The little boy just went barmy when we arrived, jumping up and down saying that Elliot was there because Elliot was his best friend. I had lectured Elliot repeatedly on not correcting J on this best friend point. Liot has really matured - he made it through over two hours without listing all of his "real" best friends. There were loads of other adults there, and maybe 8 kids, most of them this little boy's relatives. None of the adults came over to say hello or let us know what the kids were going to be doing or anything. I mean, they seemed friendly enough, and I know there was a language barrier, but it really should not be up to the parents of the guests to approach them. If any IHDers from Latin America have any insight into why they behaved this way, I would love to hear theories. The mother was in the house the entire time and we were not invited inside, no one even told us that we were welcome to at least use the restrooms or anything. Maybe we were supposed to assume it. The birthday boy kept asking me when Elliot's friend O was going to be there, and I kept asking him 'Did your mother invite O?' He did not seem to understand that I would have no idea who was coming to his party or not. He was an adorable little boy, and he called me 'Ellot's Mom' which I found charming, as in, "Elliot's Mom, what does this say?" Two neighbourhood boys arrived after us, and that was good because it took the focus off poor little Liot. Then I heard the words that will make a person's blood run cold "Oh, look. The clown is here." *shudder*

The clown was actually OK. He wasn't one of those annoying mime type creatures that just tries to make the kids laugh but in fact traumatizes them for life. He was a bit of a grumpy old queen. At one point he made Liot cry because he made balloon animals for the kids and part of Liot's balloon popped and the clown told Liot that he hadn't followed the rules (to keep the balloon off the grass). I ran over there because I knew exactly what Liot's reaction would be to this criticism, and the clown apologised and fixed the animal and it actually was not as awkward as it sounds. He had all the kids go give their balloons to a parent, so I got a breather as I took Liot to the car to deposit his balloon dog and let him calm down. Then the clown did a magic show and face painting, then he left and there was some awkward time just sort of doing nothing until they brought out food. They tried to include me in the adult portion of the dining, but vegetarians and Latin Americans don't tend to mix very well when it comes to food. I was making noise about needing to go collect Aidan (which was true) when they brought out the cake. Then the mother finally appeared and introduced herself to me and suggested that I go get Aidan and BRING HIM BACK THERE. Oh, good lord. I'd been there over two hours for a six-year-old whom I'd never heard mentioned before. As much as I appreciated the hospitality, it was time to call it a day. I explained that Aidan would be exhausted from his sleepover and I hope she understood enough of my English to know what I was saying.

I managed to get back to town, extract Aidan from his friend's house (he was even more tired than I imagined), get home and get the kids inside before the sky opened up five minutes later. It chucked it down for a good 15 minutes. Aidan needed a shower, so he took one and it woke him up enough for us to all watch the film Labyrinth (because we had heard Kevin Clash talk about a particularly difficult scene in the documentary on his life) and we all turned in a bit early. I woke up this morning feeling like I had just worked a couple of double shifts. Consequently, got very little accomplished today.

The Babe with the Power!  Love that movie - have the anniversary DVD.  When I was a teen, I fantasized about looking just like Jennifer Connelly.
(Now I just fantasize about being as healthy as I was as a teen...never mind my looks!)

More house tours today.  Actually decided at the last minute to tour the house I didn't think I was interested in because it was so close to the highway, since the others on my tour list were all pretty much duds.  Ummm, well.  My bid on it goes in first thing tomorrow.  It's huge and doesn't need much past painting and carpet scrubbing in the main living areas. The walk-out basement is already mostly finished, so even that won't take much work to turn into a fabulous space with a second bathroom already finished down there, a huge laundry/workroom, and three other big rooms to expand into down there, two of them with full daylight windows. Other than a few missing handrails on the deck, the outside doesn't need much past some ferns and flowers.  The backyard is large, with big trees that are just begging for a hammock.  The tree house platform is already up.  It's new, so no messing with replacement roof shingles or putting in new windows.  It's in a cute neighborhood, and because of its location, it's really well priced.

So, fingers crossed, for the third time since I started house shopping.  Hopefully I'm high bid this time.

Also found a new-to-me car and bought that today.  A 2-door 2001 Ford Focus.  Got a good deal on what I wanted - smaller and easier to parallel park in a big city, but with the hatchback I like so I can still do craft shows without trying to put a 10X10 canvas pop-up canopy in the trunk of a sedan.  Wheeeee, spending the money like water!  (Actually, it was half of what I had budgeted, so I'm doing good.)

Okay, off to sleep, after one more quick check of the board for crazy people posting ugly pictures.....

Got spare keys made for car and made an appointment at the dealership to get an estimate on repairing the missing handles and knobs.  Most of the parts are pretty cheap, so it shouldn't be much.  Left the car and walked home while they made the keys.  Got two - one to leave in it for lending out and valet parking, and one extra to keep in my wallet for idiot-you-just-locked-'em-in emergencies.  Hiked back after an hour.  $101.  Are ya kidding me?  I swear that whole "programmable for security" key design is just a scam to charge us more for things that shouldn't cost that much.  It's $2 to get a regular key copied.

Seriously, how much security did they think a 4 cylinder, two door hatchback needed, even when it was new?  There's no fancy stereo, no heated leather seats.  This thing doesn't even have power windows, let alone power locks. Who was going to steal it?  And if they did - how, exactly, does Ford think the programmable key is going to stop them from hot wiring it?

Okay, done now.   :rant;
