I took all my beads and jewelry making supplies to my sister's house, which is half an hour away.  We spent all afternoon repairing assorted jewelry, both hers and mine, and making some new pieces.  Then I loaded up and drove home, planning to get back before dark.  I pulled into the gas station a block from my house just as night really fell, planning to top up my tank for the week.  No purse in the seat next me, or in the back with the bead organizers.  Phooey. So much for not driving in the dark.

So, I accomplished listening to Prairie Home Companion from start to finish for a change, while I drove back to get my purse and then back home again.

What's past is prologue

« Reply #328 on: January 18, 2011, 02:14:38 PM »

Accomplished next to nothing today. I am putting copious amounts of oolong back in my diet as my skin is so dry all the time and nothing seems to help. Back to 3 pots a day (about 48oz) of citron. Yesterday I think I set a personal record by cleaning for 5 hours straight. No school for the kids yesterday thanks to MLK, but my son's private school friends were all required to be in attendance. So, I offered to have Aidan's friend over after school, and also invited his younger sister who happens to be in Liot's class. They were only by just over an hour - which frankly was plenty for me. ;D Then just as I'm recovering, Gwyn returns and another friend rang to ask if we would like to join him and his son on the sledding hill. We received 3 sleds from Santa last year but had never used them, then we had the most delightful snowfall yesterday - powdery, calm air, not too cold. We spent about an hour there. I even took to the slope for a run with Liot in the big sledding tube. Then we had to grab fast food (Chipotle) because it was gone 8PM and the kids had not eaten. Today, Liot's class is supposed to go sledding, so at least he's had loads of practice. There is a mogul at the bottom of this hill, and he nearly went flying off when I went down with him. I've no idea how he'll have done all on his own, but cannot wait to find out!

Tomorrow evening there is a snowshoeing event at the ecological centre - I am debating whether to try to register the four of us. It will certainly tire Aidan out as he also has his basketball training. Tired children are the best kind of children.

Well, I went to a one hour meeting, drove to a little old ladys house to check some paperwork for her, made 3 loaves of cinnamon raisin bread ( really good stuff) did one load of laundry and made dinner. Thats enough for one day. I am going to bed now.

I know about where you live, I am coming for bread!   :rofl;

Today: I woke up at dialysis at 2:30 a.m. with a migraine.  Still had it at work.  Made it through the day without killing anyone.  Went to the school supply store for certificates.  Then Costco for groceries. Then to dinner with hubby.

Spent hours on the laptop checking out what IHD members have been up to - I've a bit a catchup to do. And busy on Facebook as well, seeing what everyone has been up to. Keeps me in touch and makes me smile. Oh, and I had a good night's sleep last night for the first time in a week. Now that is a grand accomplishment!

Oh, that's just yucky.  My 'in sympathy' anecdote: I woke up this morning to find that my completely litter-box trained cat had decided to enjoy a spot of 'very loose bowel syndrome' (I'm not even going to attempt to spell that 'd' word) on the landing.  Thankfully I didn't put my foot in it as I sleepily stumbled to the bathroom.

Yesterday Blokey and I had a fabulous day in London, and when I say fabulous I mean he didn't feel ill or tired or anything. Now that IS an accomplishment ... yay!

Today I cycled two miles on the exercise bike and did thirty minutes on the Wii Fit.  Go me!

Yes! While hubby was at dialysis I steamed cleaned our living room. We have a pup so I like to do it from time to time to keep it fresh. I used the new Febreeze steam cleaning solution. Gee it smells so nice now.

Wooohhhhoooooo!
Homework done for the next 2 weeks in my first class.  I'd do more, but my teacher is too scatter-brained to let us know what's coming up next.
Homework and reading done for my second class for the entire Month of March.

Now, I have to do my taxes so I can finish my federal student aid app before March 1.   :puke;

I have had a stupid day, and it's mostly over. I did the washing up.... Wow, a whole 15 minutes of productivity! The roads are snowy and it's slowed everything down. We have been having an email discussion/argument over what to do with the PTA because some random parent complained that we are supporting the teachers going to Madison. She said we should be ashamed of ourselves.

Hmmm, not exactly winning any friends with that approach. I've told the PTA that I am not giving up my political voice for any volunteer job that no one would have for love nor money until I came along. The solution is your typical silly semantics game: we have formed a separate committee that will have no affiliation with the PTA (though all of the board members are on it) and it will organize the fight against the budget bill. Happy now, union-hating parent?? :rofl;

I should really be cleaning. Off I go....

Way to go Cariad!  :2thumbsup;

For a day off from work, I actually got quite a bit done....

First I took a load of clean clothes to my dad who convalescing in transitional care from a hospital stay. Then I bought food for my school gerbils and tarantula. Then a doctor's appointment, followed by lunch at home.

We then went to school to give a tour to a prospective family, then visited our dialysis clinic to say hi to everyone and get a $38,000 bill straightened out (neither our insurance nor medicare think they should pay, so it says that WE are responsible! Cough, cough, gag!)

Then we took a walk (about a mile for me and two miles for Carl). After that I talked with a real estate agent who is handling the sale of some property for a board for which I am president and then I had a satisfying chat on FB.

Now we are finished with dinner and I'm tired...... :waiting;  What gives?

I'm not looking forward to going to WORK tomorrow. Ha ha ha ha ha!

Now, more homework.

What's past is prologue

« Reply #349 on: February 26, 2011, 03:55:00 PM »

Today has been a great day.

We took my older son to his baseball tryout. I think he was nervous, but he did really well. If they cannot see his potential, they should not be coaches.

Then we went to Growing Power which is an amazing collective of urban farmers that aims to fight racism and poverty through tackling food accessibility. Will Allen, a former pro basketball player, founded it.

Because of my father's former business, he has a load of credits through a trade organization. It's a little difficult to explain, but companies sign up to accept these credits, and you basically treat them like a bank account, except you must pay tax and in gratuity situations, tip in cash. Well, in addition to having some of our favorite restaurants signed up, Growing Power is a member. There is no tax on food in Wisconsin, and no tips in a market. We just received their basket with fresh broccoli (we put some into the egg and potato scramble we had for lunch and it was incredible - I don't even like broccoli that much) haricots verts, 4 apples (2 red, 2 green), French breakfast melon, a yellow onion, 4 pears, 4 oranges, and four bananas. My understanding is that everything is grown locally, so I would love to know who on earth has the facility to grow bananas and oranges in Wisconsin. Gwyn also grabbed some honey harvested from their 11 hives kept out back. This cost us nothing but my father's account number. We can replace our CSA with this, and it is year round, not just summer, so we'll save probably over $1000 annually, and my father has around $140,000 in credits. We really needed this right now - finances are dire.

Then we returned home and noticed that the bananas had been smashed in the bag under the heavier fruits. So, Gwyn and I just threw together another batch of blueberry muffins, and added two of the bananas. Those should be ready shortly. I am also doing laundry. (Woo-hoo! Excitement!)

Fun little moment from the day (don't we all need these!): While Gwyn was out, I tried to help my four-year-old with his Mac (he calls it his iComputer). He cannot read very well yet, so he did not know what to do when the computer told him it wanted to update. Then when the computer shut down, he showed me how he knows how to get back to his favorite sites. Wow. I had no idea he knew his way around that device so well. Then I told him I was going down to the kitchen, which is two floors down from his bedroom. I warned him that I would not be able to hear him down there, and asked him what he could do if he needed help. Without missing a beat he replied "I could Skype you to your iPhone." Beg your pardon??
