Sister will be my donor

Today my sister and I visited the transplant center and got our surgery confirmation date for September 29th.
Yes, it will really happen and I am thrilled. She is coming through for me and I am very proud of her for making such an enormous decision.
The surgeon told her she has naturally extra large kidneys for a woman and her kidneys function perfectly so she is an ideal candidate as a living donor.Plus she is extremely fit and healthy. She will be in a 5 year study to investigate the "plumping up" effect in older donors (she is 58).I will be on Prograff,Cellcept, and prednisone, an antifungal, and antibiotic. Since I have PRA's of 96% at last check, the prednisone may likely be always, though aiming for low dosage.I feel very blessed to have a pre-emptive transplant. My father and mother seemed so happy and relieved. My husband even more so. I will let you know how things go.

I am so excited for you! Our stories have paralled each other for a long time and now we both get transplants the same month! This is so wonderful.
A couple things I wish I had with me --- chapstick (your mouth gets so dry) and some kind of mints. (again, dry mouth and yucky taste) This is just days away!! How incredible!! I will be right here waiting to hear how things go. Will your husband post something?

Oh Sunny, how wonderful for you. It's so nice to hear about miracles that happen for others. I know you've been through the ringer with your sister, and I'm so glad she has decided to do this wonderful thing for you. I really hope that she will benefit from this as much as you will, although in a different way. Please tell us much more when you are able.

Thank you for your well wishes.
I'm busy hanging low and getting lots of rest this week to make sure I don't catch a cold.
I'm looking forward to feeling better soon.

Pack loose, elastic pants to come home in. You may be a little bloated ( I was!) and you won't want anything tight on the staples for awhile. Have someone stock you refridgerator with drinks. Bottles of water, juice boxes, crystal light packs you put into bottled water, etc. You will be recording every single ounce you drink, so I have found that pre-packages drinks helped me keep track of my fluids. Protein is still my hardest thing to get enough of, so when I eat I try to make the food count. If I think of any more ideas, I will post! I am so excited!
