The picture of the old hut with the beautiful blue sky and bush setting, burnt down 3 days ago it was called Craigs Hut where the movie The Man from Snowy River was filmed , there are terrible bush fires raging up there destroying some great country , but at least no lives have been lost yet.

UPDATE Fires are still raging and now  a life has been lost after some idiots deliberately lit fires down Gippsland way in Victoria. He wasn't actually killed by the fire, but run over by fire tanker as he was fighting the fire.

A loss of life is terrible. I don't know about Australian law but in the states who ever started the fire would face murder charges.

I really appreciated the Aussie card.  It describes the type of weather we have here at Christmas too (in fact, all year round!)

California lost five fire fighters in an arson fire near Beaumont.  It was a staggering loss.  The fire just literally ran them over up the mountain.

Under our laws you would be looking at about 25 years in prison.

I enjoyed the Aussie Christmas card!  As an American who hasn't travelled much, I have trouble wrapping my brain around Christmas in summer.  How do the Aussies here feel about all the songs, movies, etc., that refer to a winter Christmas?  Can you relate, or does it seem a little weird to you?

You would be very surprised at Christmas in the British Caribbean.  All our decorations, etc. are as if we know about snow.  We have these huge displays with snowmen, and snow falling, etc.  When I was a child, the christmas cards we sent had snow, sleighs etc. on them.  Maybe it is a throwback from the planter class (who were originally from Britain) trying to preserve their memories, and we who had lost all our African culture just taking on their culture.
