We're running on our own with Billy (Our SystemOne cycler) and his sidekick PFSL; our trainer has set us free. Doing home hemo has been relatively easy for us --- except for the decannulating part. On days when Sheila's BP is lower, it's 100% easy, hold pressure, apply clean dressing and tape. Last night, the tape wasn't holding well and the venous needle got accidentally pulled out out of her fistula b4 we were ready for it  :oops; when we were removing the arterial side. Needless, to say, it was a bloody mess. I don't think she lost more than 30ml in the ensuing chaos (we called EMS just in case) but does this part ever get easy?

Went through a couple of those episodes in the beginning, it does get easier. what we finally settled on was to pull the needle about 1/2 way out, apply a Sure-Seal, then a pad folded in quarters, pull the needle, then over the gauze with 2 wraps of stretch gauze around the arm, held with a length of plastic tape, some might call this overkill, but it works for her just fine. The Gauze and pad are removed about an hour later and the Sure-Seal is replaced with a common fabric band-aid about 1 hour after that, no more bleeding episodes.......

Thanks. We're trying a few different options and trying to make sure the needle securing tape is sticking to her skin. The center she used to go to used the sure seal strips; gonna go look for some.

You might have your doc write a script for them so they can be included in your monthly treatment supplies.  We did this with the Medipore tape because that's the only tape that will stick to hubby and of course, it's more expensive.

Meinuk coined the phrase "had a Carrie moment" ... always exciting.
