After an earlier barney on another thread, it was resolved that having a chat with Mr Google was OK. So, my Lady, over to you. The song pre-dates you by about 100+ years. Do we have any Americans from the southern states in our midst?

Orright! I am disappointed in all of you, and I'm afraid I'll have to impose the $20 rule (which means, of course, that everyone on this thread has to send me $20!)

The answer was 'The Bonnie Blue Flag'!!!!

Who wants to have the next go?

No takers,eh!

So try
"Oh, slow up, dogies, quit your roving round,
You have wandered and tramped all over the ground;
Oh, graze along, dogies, and feed kinda slow,
And don't forever be on the go,
— Oh, move slow, dogies, move slow.
Hi-oo, hi-oo, oo-oo."

I am so disappointed in all of you!

The song was the " Night Herdin' Song" written in 1898 by Captain Roberts of the Texas Rangers.

Try something easier:

'Daddy don't drive in that Eldorado
No more
He don't travel on down to the neighborhood
Liquor store
Lucy still loves her coke and rum
But she sits alone
'Cause her daddy can't come
Daddy don't drive in that Eldorado
No more'

Oooo i know!! Daddy don'tlive in that New York city no more - Steely Dan  ;D
Gotta love Steely Dan.

I'll do some lyrics of a song i was just listening to before..

Down the street you can hear her scream you're a disgrace
As she slams the door in his drunken face
And now he stands outside
And all the neighbors start to gossip and drool

Pokarekare Ana, it used to be on a few ads on TV.. haa, otherwise i would have had to look that up. Embarrasingly so, being a kiwi & not knowing Maori.. usually the way over here though  :rofl;

Kaay, how about this doozy

Gimme a country
Where I can be free
Don't need the unions
Strangling me
Keep me in exile the rest of my days
Burn me in hell but as long as it pays

'Arts For Arts Sake' 10cc.

Another easy one for you, Lady. Of course, the rest of you can have a lash!

"Mauria te hōnore o te iwi.
Ka hīkoi mātou ki te hoariri
Whawhaitia tae noa ki te mutunga
Mō te Atua! Mo te kingi! Me te whenua!
AU-E!, ake ake kia kaha e!"

Or as a pakeha would sing:

"Be the living expression of the people's honour.
We will march to the enemy
Put them to flight at the end.
For God! For King! And for country!
AU - E! Forever and ever be strong! "

Googling ain't cheating.

A marching song of the 28th Maori Battalion, whose 3500 members went on to win fame in World War Two as shock troops in Greece, Crete, North Africa and Italy. This marching song was written in 1939 by Corporal Anania Amohau of the Te Arawa, and it was later put to music by the bandmaster of Trentham Camp.  It was one of the most popular songs of the New Zealand Division during the Second World War.

Chorus:
 "Maori Battalion march to victory
  Maori Battalion staunch and true
  Maori Battalion march to glory
Take the honour of the people with you
We will march, march, march to the enemy
And we'll fight right to the end.
For God! For King! And for Country!
AU - E! Ake, ake, kia kaha e!"

Have a squiz at it on YouTube.             '

Your turn, Lady.

Lady Noir, you have gone missing in action.

It's up to you to tell YLGuy if his answer was correct or not. Then he has a go.

One for Mother's day:

Dear old daddy rest his soul, left my mom a heavy load
She tried so very hard to fill his shoes
Workin' hours without rest, wanted me to have the best
Oh she tried to raise me right, but I refused.

Here's another mother one:

"I made a wish upon a star
I could have a brand new car
Got tired of wishing
So I stole one

Seventeen and knew it all
My dreams were big
But my thoughts were small
So many roads somehow I chose
The wrong one"
