Marvin got his call last night. The surgery went well and the kidney is slowly waking up but he is producing urine, so things look good.   Always good to know when someone gets their gift.    :thumbup;

That's fantastic...here's to more waking up of that kidney and a long healthy life of the transplant.  It's been a rough time and Petey and Marvin both deserve this.   :grouphug;

I am so happy for Marvin and his spectacular caregiver Petey! :yahoo; :yahoo; :yahoo;

Wasn't Marvin highly sensitized? I seem to remember this being near a one-in-a-million sort of chance. Either way, my best wishes to both of them!  :beer1; :flower;

A note fom Petey:

Karol,
I would like to share some good news with IHD. My husband Marvin got a kidney transplant early Tuesday morning; he is doing wonderfully well. We plan to leave the hospital today (Saturday).

Marvin started on dialysis 15 1/2 years ago. With one short transplant in the middle of this, he had been on dialysis and on the waiting list for the last seven years (this last time). All total, he has had a little over 2,400 dialysis treatments. His PRA was 98% and his doctor told him he stood a much better chance of winning the MegaMillion lottery than he did of getting another transplant. We didn't give up hope, but we did come to terms with the very real possibility that it would be dialysis for the rest of his life.

The kidney Marvin received on Tuesday was a 4/6 match, and the doctors said it would be comparable to a donation from a sibling. All cross matching was perfect! It all happened very quickly, and we were quite surprised. The surgeon told Marvin that he had been "blessed with the miracle of a lifetime."

I want to send a message to the ones on IHD who are waiting and who are wondering if "the call" will ever come for them. Yes! Hold on! Your time will come! And, when it does, it is the BEST feeling in the world. Keep your spirits up and your hope alive. Take care of yourself and be as healthy as you can for when the time comes. Don't give up hope!! Don't ever give up!
