Going through life tied to a chair!

Tuesday night they had a problem getting my venous needle in.  He pulled out a tiny clot and then he got it in.  I ran okay.

Last night again they had problems getting my venous needle in.  Finally after digging around they got a flash and I was on but my venous pressure was high.

Time for a fistulagram to see what is going on.  Hopefull just need to pull a clot out.  My vascular surgeon is very nice and lets me email him with questions and problems.  He said he would try and work me in on Tuesday.  I hope I can get one more dialysis out of this arm on Sunday night.

I'm not sure I really want to know the answer to this, but I'm a glutton for punishment...how exactly is a fistulagram performed?  Are needles involved?

Usually what is indicated is "fistulagram, possible angioplasty". Intervetional Radiology uses contrast dye (given IV) to assess the blood flow in the access (Fistula or Graft). If a narrowing is detected a ballon catheter (a wire like device) is fished in to the area of the blockage and a balloon agioplasty is performed to widen the narrow area. There can be some pain associated with this but it is best if you remain alert so you can give the doctor feedback as to the lavel of pain. This can prevent excess ballooning and damage.

(2 1/2 hours X 5 weekly)
Self-cannulated, 15 gauge blunts, buttonholes.
Living donor transplant (sister-in law Kathy) Feb. 2009
First failed kidney transplant removed Apr.  2009
Second trx doing great so far...all lab values in normal ranges

Rerun, my husband had fistulagram with angioplasty and he had virtually no pain with it.  He was drowsy but able to recall the procedure.  I am hoping for a great outcome for you and will be thinking of you.

This is why no kid out of radiology college is doing my fistulagram.  My vascular surgeon knows me and he will put me OUT before any angioplasty!

The most recent fistulagram I had sedation and I was alert, I need another one this month and I want the sedation again I dont want to feel that strong pressure again unless I really have to.

Sunday night we did a flow study and it was 700 which is good but it had dropped 100 points from last month.  My pressures were good.  So I thought I should cancel the fistulagram since things looked good.  But, NO, the staff said I needed to keep my appointment.  So I have my sister drive 45 miles to get me and take me in there.

We check in at 1:00.  At 2:15 I go up the the desk to see when I might be called back.  Well, it seems they didn't know I was there.  Well, the sticker is on my chart with the check in time.  Well, sorry we don't know what happened.  So then they get me back there.  Put the IV in and all is good.  I wait.  Then they finally get me to the holding pen.  I wait.  There are 2 emergencies a head of me.  I wanted to ask if they had insurance but I didn't.  So, it looks like 4 more hours at least. 

That is when I said I really didn't need this done.  They called the surgeon and he came back and looked at my fistula and agreed.  I mean it is working and there were people there where it was not working.  So they sent me home.  I should have trusted my gut feeling.


But anymore, if your fistula quits and they can't get to you for 7 days your are dead!  I don't know the answer.  I feel stupid for even taking up their time.

Yeah my surgeon looked at mine today and said it has a nice thrill and bruit but we are going to do it anyways because my pressures are high, and they can't get a flash the further they go up, but the bruit doesn't whistle or nothing so I am starting to think it's idiotic techs.
