New one from Oregon....

Hey everybody, I just found your site!
A little about me.....I'm Mike, I'm 29, and I have CKD(obviously!! :-P ) I was diagnosed in April of last year. I've been doing in-center hemodialysis since that time, and completing my work-ups to be listed for transplant. Just last week, I got the dental portion completed....after having all of my wisdom teeth removed!!!
I"m also a full-time college student currently. Decided, after talking with my nephrologist and being assured I can, to complete my Associates Degree in Diesel Service Technology....that kind of explains my username. When I'm not turning wrenches at school, I'm doing something on my own truck! I'll be graduating this upcoming fall, at which point I am hoping to return to work full-time. I'm also starting to navigate the maze known as Medicare....oh what fun!!
I like the site so far, it looks great....I'll be looking around and learning more I hope!

You sure have a busy life, and that's terrific. Thanks so much for telling us your story. We love meeting new people although it is unfortunate that everyone we meet has some experience with CKD. Still, we're glad you are here and hope to hear a lot more from you. I'm completing the workups for a transplant, too, so I'd be most interested in hearing more about your experiences in this regard.

Hello and welcome to IHD. Which part of OR are you from. I'm visiting in Walla Walla, WA this weekend, but I live in Spokane. You are too young for this crap, but I'm sure you know that! I hope you enjoy the site and learn lots.

Nice to meet you Mike. I am in the diesel repair business in California and I will tell you, you have picked a very rewarding career and this industry is on the verge of a lot of drastic changes due to ever changing emission laws. We need skilled technicians with higher education back grounds such as your self to keep going in the right direction. Good luck and never quit.

Thanks everybody!! I actually just got home from dialysis and logged in.....:-)
Rerun....I'm living in the Portland metro area, currently. My dad and stepmom live up in Spokane, though, so I get up there when I can! Was actually up there at Christmastime last year, and ran a session at a local clinic. Was my first experience traveling on dialysis, and overalll, I made it thru Christmas eve and Christmas without a terrible weight gain! My blood pressure did decide to crash during the session, which wasn't so much fun, though.....
MooseMom- From what I'm told, my workups are basically 'done'. I have to go back in to the dentist on this upcoming Thursday to get the final clearance, and have them send the form to the transplant clinic. Should be listed this summer, hopefully early in the summer.
AIRon- Glad to hear from a fellow technician!!! On some of the bad days, I wonder if I'm crazy or what. Also kinda worried about finding a shop that'll hire me, what with all the 'issues'....how have you fared, if you don't mind my asking?
Loving the site so far....now if i could just find a 'dating advice' forum....every woman i've told so far has freaked out on me. :-(

Hi there and welcome to IHD. If the women you tell are freaking out on you, then they are the type you dont need in your life anyways. As I always tell my kids, keep your chin up, this too shall pass and Ms. Right will come along.

Mike I have fared pretty good since I told my employer about my issue, but we have been very good friends through out the years so it's personal for him and I. In all fairness I haven't truned a wrench for profit in years. My duties now days focus on keeping the shop running smooth and stock full of parts.
