First of all this website and all the information is fantastic.  I discovered I was in stage 3 kidney disease about two years ago with a GFR of 53.  Since that time it
improved up to 58 and is now 51.   So I decided to learn as much as possible about kidney disease to be smart about the problem and what I could do to hopefully
slow or hold the kidney function loss.  So I really wanted to understand what happens if my kidneys continue to fail and at some point I will need dialysis or other options.
Finding this website and reading all the real life stories has been very uplifting.  Having Kidney disease is not a death sentence as it was in earlier years.  Definitely takes
a lot of effort but there is hope based on your heart warming emails.  I really admire anyone on this website who faces an issue and doesn't let it get them down.
Again, look forward to learn all I can about what I face and hopefully will help me in my journey whatever it may be.  Thanks,  Ron

Welcome to the group, Ron from Texas.  I agree, there is a ton of information here and lots of really nice people.  Glad you found us.

Hi Ron and I'm so glad you found us.  50% is still really good kidney function.  You can get on the transplant list when you get down to 20% and I suggest you do that to get your clock ticking (wait time).  If you get a call you can always turn it down if circumstances aren't right for you.  You go on dialysis around 10% function. Having said that, everyone is different so you may need dialysis sooner or later than those numbers. 

Keep reading.  Loads to learn here.  Don't obsess over your disease.  Travel and live life right now!

Hi Ron and    to IHD. Glad you found out about it while you still have good function. Mine is about half of yours, as it was when they found it. Hope you stay in your present stage for a good long time and as Re run said, Enjoy life now!!!!

Howd TxRon...Glad you found our site and joined in.  It sure sounds like you are approaching this with the best attitude...learn all you can and do all you can to lessen the impact for as long as you can.

Welcome to our community!  I am glad that you discovered our website and that it has been a help to you. That is the aim of Epoman, who founded this site.  I know that it was a real godsend to me, as I discovered it just the month before I started dialysis, and it is impossible for me to quantify how much it has meant to my handling of this renal challenge.  This is the place for information, real support (and lots of fun).  YOu will soon find that it is a genuine family    caring and sharing.  So you just keep on reading, keep on posting, and keep asking.
