 :( I went to a memorial get together yesterday. I wasn't terribly close to Martin, but wanted to show my support and see some of my 2003 classmates as well. I wont get into details, but he had been in the military and had been very depressed since his two tours overseas. Whats more sad is he left behind a wife and kids. I still cannot believe it, and even though I wasn't that great of friends with him, its actually hitting me hard, i think since I have dealt with suicide deaths before. Anyway on a happier note I got to see a bunch of old highschool friends and ended up staying all day. I will hopefully stay in touch more with them! I actually had a shot of Whiskey- they are Irish lol. I didn't puke so thats a plus lol!

So sorry to hear about your classmate - so young and with a wife and children, heartbreaking. I don't know if civilians realize the psychological trauma our soldiers are coming home with. We know of the horrible physical wounds they suffer, but the mental stress is there as well. Please remember to keep our soldiers in your prayers - the men and women who are in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as those who have returned home and struggle with what they have been through.

How awful!  I think the general public may not understand entirely the effects of PTSD but certainly understands that it affects so many of our soldiers.  It's such a shame that there aren't more resources available for returning vets.  We just are not a wealthy nation anymore that can look after its military after they've come home.  And the private insurance sector won't do anything for them.  It's just not right.

I lost a couple HS from this also. They say that suicide effects at least 10 living room. I say it's a whole lot more.

Hee Hee!!!!.... As an Irishwoman, I could take offence!!!!!.... :rofl;.... Thing is though, it's a true generalisation!.... I'm told that I'm not REALLY Irish, as I've never drank alcohol... ;D

Besides, you had that whiskey purely for medicinal reasons, right???.... That's the usual excuse!!!... That or 'I only drank it to be sociable!'...  :rofl;

How sad, that he felt that badly about his life. May he rest in peace. Hope the kids are not little bitty ones. Poor wife, to have to deal with this and no doubt feeling its her fault too. What a shame.

Sorry to hear about Martin. I lost a friend the same way after he caught his wife cheating. He did it in a dramatic way they labeled it suicide by cop. He also did 2 or 3 tours.
