Fun things to do

Sometimes we get so caught up in dialysis and stuff related to it, I think we forget to have some fun.  So today I am headed, with my Mom and her friend Judy, off to the San Diego Wild Animal Park.  I will say hello to all of the relatives there. LOL.  I am taking the camera, so we shall see if I get any good pics to post here.  I will probably post the bad ones anyway!  I am going to join the Zoo Society so I can go free to the zoo and wild animal park the the next year.  We plan to vacation in San Diego in June so it will get used this year.

So where do you go to have fun in your area on a day trip?  I live in Southern California, so I could fill a book on day trips around the area.  What do I mean by a day trip?  Somewhere you can go for a day just to have fun or do something different.

I live by Mackinaw City, Michigan, which is a tourist mecca.  I like to ride the ferry over to the Island for lunch.  If you haven't heard of it, the island is mostly a giant state park, with a small town full of tourist shops, hotels, and the historic Fort.  No cars allowed, only horse and buggy.  We always snuck into the Grand Hotel the back way so we could rock in the chairs on the famous front porch for free. (They charge any non-guests these days.)  The ferrys used to give the businesses free passes, so we could always ride on one of the ferry lines for free.

Common Questions we get from Tourists ---

What time does the Bridge swing over to the island?  (The bridge is nearly 5 miles long, and shaped a lot like the Golden Gate. . .) 
Sunday at noon.  Park in the middle and wait.

Is that Canada on the other side of the bridge?  (It connects the Upper and Lower parts of the state.  This always makes me wonder how they managed to drive here without checking any map.)
Yes.  Got your passport?

Is there water all the way around the island?
No, it's jello on the other side.

How do you drive to the Underwater Shipwreck Preserve? (The guy had a map and a highlighter out when he asked this. . .)
Take a hard right in the middle of the bridge.

What time does the tide go out?  We want to ride our bikes over to the island.  (Ummm. .  Great Lakes State, folks?)
4 am.  There's a nice ramp off the fishing pier.

I thought there were a lot of Indians living around here.  How come we didn't see any teepees on the reservation?
Sorry, no good answer for this one.  The blue -eyed blonde waitress friend of mine who also happens to be 50% Native American  couldn't manage an answer before she started laughing.  She did say it would solve her problem with finding a clean, cheap place to rent.

Well since I live in a small town there is not much to do.  I like to go to my grandparents house.  They live in the country.  So i like to go walking by myself to clear my head.  About once a month I go to Wichita, its about an hr and a half dr.  Me and Shana go out to eat and window shop.
Wow! ! !   After reading that...I just made myself depressed.  What a life I live ! !!   
Hmmm, maybe I will take up cow tipping.  lol

To me a fun night here in my town is just to have friends over and play boardgames.  When i USED to party it was always a drinking game like Quarters or Bullshit or Kings Corners or something ANYTHING that had to do with drinking, but now that i CANT party the way that i USED to   its all about the board games but i make sure we have a good time

I live close to an ocean so we would go there, but what's the fun if you can't get in the water?  So instead we go to historic New Bern, NC.  As one of the oldest cities in the country it is beautiful and full of history.  Birthplace of Pepsi, ya know.  Ok I hate Pepsi so I don't care, but the people in this state are crazy proud about that :-)  Being from TX I'm a Dr. Pepper girl myself.

There isn't much to do in my city .. especially with this cold Canadian weather ...

There are several "Day Trips" from Sacramento.  I can go to the ocean about two hours away or Lake Tahoe two hours the other way.  Reno is an hour and a half away.  There is Sutter's Mill where gold was discovered and there are lots of wineries around.

Man oh man . I just spent the day laughing with my Mom and her friend Judy at the San Diego Wild Animal Park.  My camera batteries gave out around picture 109 so I will have to sort them when I load them up here.  I have a great picture of a lion's butt. I TOLD you we laughed all day long!  It was a great day trip.  I will post pictures when I download them from the camera, not all 109 of them. I will pick and choose.

In my area (NE Florida), we have St Augustine about an hour away (first city in the US, maybe N. America?) that has lots of cool historic stuff.  The beach is less than an hour away, lots of state parks fairly close, good fishing spots about 30-45 min away, the Zoo, lots of boat ramps around to get your boat in the water and go cruising (haven't done that yet), flea markets, the Busch plant (you know, Budweiser  ) where you can take a tour, see how the beer is made, free tastings, Budweiser souveniers; lots of movie theaters, lots of antique and thrift stores, dog parks (if you're into that, I prefer to NOT expose my dogs to illness  ), lots of pool halls (billiards and darts), and so much more.  I can't remember it all.

Yes, it is good when the area you live in has things to do and lots of them.  Southern California is a very busy place.  I heard a mother to a duaghter at the Wild Animal Park, "Now don't complain you are hungry when we get to Disneyland tonight."   All I could think was "Disneyland after a day at the Wild Animal Park.  Oh you are a glutton for punishment!"   I hope they got through it all okay yesterday.

Fox and I live in the same state. I love our beaches- from Nags Head to Sunset Beach--great state to live in. The mountains are just 2-3 hours west, so we really have the best of everything.   Now, if you want to know where I want to be---just look at my name!

I went to Mackinaw for may anniversary this year.  It is absolutely beautiful in June with all the trees in full blossom.  We rented one of the drive it your self horse buggies and took the scenic route around the island.  It was a great time.

I like to go camping and hiking with my wife.  We have been to several different state parks in the midwest.  We get a camp site at the state park if possible or one nearby, and hike till our legs fall off.  We are never in a big hurry to get through the trails we just take our time and enjoy the scenery.

Well I finally made it to my moms.  WE are going to play monopoly and phase 10 tonight.  First my stepdad is going to whoop my butt in some football game on the xbox.

We went to the beach for a week. You can get lucky near Santa Barbara in November - with the weather I mean - and we had a few days of glorious blue skies and warm breezes. My sister and her daughter visited and we had so much fun doing really low key stuff. We walked in the sand, put coins on the train tracks and watched then get smooshed, collected beach rocks and painted them, and cruised little second hand stores. It was so nice. Simple pleasures.

well for me it depends on what time of year it is....in january the national western stock show, in summer the renaissance festival.
in the metro area (any time) there is, the zoo, natural history museum, wild life experience, coors brewery, and celestial seasonings . head for colorado springs and there are over 100 tourist type attractions. point your nose west and head for the mountains, skiing in winder and all kinds of stuff spring and summer. head north and you have rocky mountain national park, and lots of stuff in the city of estes park. colorado is just loaded.  ya'all come visit and i'll show you around

We went to Mackinaw when we where kids I remember the bridge having open grating for a roadway which was a trip seeing the water below. Its been 40 years I am pretty sure it was that bridge to let the snow fall through.
