Hi I am Steve and are new to the sport

Briefly I have over the past weeks commenced CAPD dialysis and I suppose I feel a little cheated  as during the months I knew it was coming I managed to stave off the depression and carry on working. I thought I would feel like I did 10 years ago but now realise that Dialysis keeps you alive and nothing more. But no matter how many talks/lectures/briefings you attend, they cannot prepare you for what lies ahead. Bending down is an impossibility and the smallest of tasks leave you tired and feeling unwell.

However that's enough self pity and I would like to say to all......HELLO

G'day Steve!

I've never quite heard of dialysis as a "sport" - but I suppose in a way it is a challenge for you to kick the goals and not have the goals kicked against you (sometimes it does feel like Chelsea v. Aston Villa!  :rofl;).

I can't speak directly for PD as I have never been on it, but since you have only just started perhaps you've yet to stabalise on it and to benefit fully from it yet - as in you may feel more able in the future. I hope so anyway.

At any rate - welcome to IHD!

2007- since January 2007 carer to my husband John who has the following, allways been a very fit man up till then.
2007 - January Renal failure
2007 - March Diagnosed with a Horseshoe kidney and bladder cancer.
2007 - June One kidney, Prostrate and Bladder removed with stage 4 cancer. Urostomy

 :welcomesign;   to IHD Steve. Hope you adjust to PD soon. Most people like it. I am seriously considering doing it, but a few obstacles in the way at this time. Good luck to you and come back often.

 :waving; Thanks for the kind words...seem to be some nice people on this site, and some a darn site worse off than me.
Sitting here watching the drain bag fill (highlight of the day lol)., and drooling at the thought of an ice cold beer..oh the pain !!....and pondering what my wife is cooking for my dog molly (a collie by the way)..yep I know molly the collie...hmm!!..anyway back to what my wife is cooking...for the dog...KIDNEYS..jeez yah cant get away from it can ya !! :sarcasm; ..lol...must dash I feel like the bottom of a Mcdonalds milkshake when you are sucking out the last bits :puke; hang in there guys there is light at the end of the tunnel..ah no there isnt ..it was just some guy with a torch bringing me more meds...cya soon x

 :welcomesign; Steve to IHD and the ESRD stadium.  I like your sense of humour and having one is crucial to success in the game.  I'm from Canada, never been on PD, but know hemo pretty intimately and have been playing in the transplant league for most of my career.

New upper-arm fistula April 2008
Uldall-Cook catheter inserted May 2008
Haemo-dialysis, self care unit June 2008
(2 1/2 hours X 5 weekly)
Self-cannulated, 15 gauge blunts, buttonholes.
Living donor transplant (sister-in law Kathy) Feb. 2009
First failed kidney transplant removed Apr.  2009
Second trx doing great so far...all lab values in normal ranges

Hi Steve,
I am new to this site as well.  I had my fistula placed and am waiting on it to mature before I start D.  I am also on the transplant waiting list.  I loved your sense of humor.  Not only will that help  you, but it also helps others (me).  Thanks for making me laugh today!

I was on pd for 6 months and although it was bloody awful to start it did get better - know what you mean about watching those drain bags fill... exciting times!!

Where in the UK are you from? I am in exeter.

Hiya!  I'm a septic who lived in the UK (Croydon...lovely Croydon!) for almost 20 years.  Most of those lecturers know sod all about what it really feels like to be on D.  Even those who ARE on it aren't going to be able to prepare YOU for YOUR treatments.  But there does seem to be a common consensus that most who are new to D feel worse before they feel better, but they do feel better in the long run.  You may start out in the fourth division, but with time and perserverence, you'll be in the Premiereship before you know it.  But before you are promoted, you have IHD for a right old whinge.

Hi guys
Thanks for the nice words..sniff.. makes ya sorta feel all warm and...Guess what ??..I have made a fantastic discovery...something that will change the PD (pain in the *&%") ... for good...ready..sorry first..hey Lou I am in Wales near Neath, i know Exeter as i used to live in Guzz (Plymouth) and Tracy keep laffing hun its the best medicine....anyway back to my discovery.  About 5.30 this morning and doing my morinig routine which sorta incorparates CAPD whilst asleep...my discovery is.........THE DRAIN BAG  :urcrazy; it makes a fantastic foot warmer ..no honest!!!!! I had the coziest toes this morning ... this may hower confuse the Docs when they see the weight of my drain bag is 103.6 kilos and not the usual. I hope this helps other CAPD sports fans out there ...ta da !!

World Cup Teams: Hemo Needles, PD Bumps, Constant Alarms, Legs-a-Cramping, BP High Rollers, Fluid Overloads and the Thrilling Fistula's. The World Cup playing in the stadium nearest you three days a week. Oh, bye the way welcome to IHD!

I was told 16 years ago that my kidneys would fail, plenty of time to get ready, but when it happened last October it made me mad!
