Waiting for a date.

I met the Transplant Surgeon on Wednesday morning.
On that afternoon my parents had an appointment with their Neph.
He said that he is happy for my father to donate to me. Dad is in good shape for 55.
They're talking late April or sometime in May.
I will post up when i get a date.
Dad still has to meet his Surgeon and we do some of the blood tests for a third time, to be sure.
I can't say i'm excited, would rather not be doing any of this. D or Tx.

Good luck!
I am just starting the process myself. I am racing the clock and trying to get a preemptive transplant and avoid dialysis. It's all kind of scary and I still have a bit of denial and can't believe this is really happening to me.

Sico, I can completely relate to not really being excited about it. I often look at transplant as the best (for me) of a set of miserable options. I'm hoping for a smooth ride for you. Good luck.

great news sico!! I know you'd rather not have to deal with any of this stuff, but the option of a live donation is a fantastic one to have. I think you mentioned elsewhere you've been on D for 18 months or so? That's a long time, but it's nothing compared to a lot of people waiting years and years for a cadaveric transplant (let alone those souls who for whatever reason are not suitable for a transplant). Your father wants to donate and is in good shape - this is a wonderful situation for you potentially - to give you your lifre back - and this is something your dad would be so happy to be involved with I am sure.
Hope you got your date soon mate!!

Thanks you guys.
BASSMAN - Hope you can avoid Dialysis.
cariad - Miserable options, sometimes i think of it like a catch 22 situation. But you know the medical experts tell us tx is the way to go.
A smooth ride would be good.
karol - I am lucky to have options, yrs.
Richard - I often think about people on the waiting list with no other option, i tell everyone that i am lucky.
I've read that here in Aus there's over 10,000 people on dialysis and only 1,300 on the waiting list for a kidney. So i guess the other 8,000+ have other major health problems.
My family (mum, dad, brother and sister) are the same blood type as me. Had a few friends say they would be tested if things didn't work out.
I'll be happy when i hear that you get the call, this place is going to go off!

lol yeah I often wonder what will come first - a win for the tiggers or the phone call!!!
It's great you have so many options - hoping so much this works out for you and you can make dialysis a not-so-fond memory for many years to come - get back out on that bike and sail into the sunset!!!

Good luck Sico. May God bless your transplant that it will last for a very very very very very very very long time.

Dailysis patient for since 1999 and still kicking it strong. I was called for a transplant but could not get it due to damage veins from extremely high blood pressure. Have it under control now, on NxStage System but will receive dailysis for the rest of my life. Does life sucks because of this. ABOLUTELY NOT! Life is what you make it good, bad, sick, or healthy. Praise God I'm still functioning as a normal person just have to take extra steps.

Wow you are very lucky. They do say that live kidneys are to last longer then a cadaver one. I am a slight jealous. In October it will be 3 years since i started dialysis. And I wish I could get a kidney.
