I'm on PD, I use Fresenius. I had a question about calories.... I know there is calories in our bags, but how much? And.. when we dwell, do we get the calories? Or do we only get the calories if we dwell to long and absorb some fluid? Should these calories from the bag be added to our daily calories? Im trying tolose a few lbs and was told watch your calorie intake and you should lose weight.. but dunno if my dialysis solution needs to be included in this or not?

Thanks

When you were first started on PD they would have given you a PFT or Peritoneal Function Test. This  determines whether you are a high , medium, or low transporter so they would know how long you could dwell before you began absorbing the fluid.   You should have received a copy of that test to keep in your records, if not, request one.  It is my understanding that if they have your 'prescription' figured properly, you should not absorb those calories.  I have found that it is difficult to lose weight while on PD, but not impossible.  Be diligent in your eating habits as well as exercising and you should be able to drop some weight, just don't do it too quickly.  Best 'o' luck, :2thumbsup;  Anja

Thank you. I am a high transporter. So 45 mins is my dwell time, I am not absorbing it, so then I guess I am not getting those calories. lol.. whew. Thanks again
