To-day the weather has changed. From about 100 degrees F it is about 60 to-day. An hour or so ago, while sitting at the computer in light clothes, I suddenly started shivering uncontrollably. It was terrrible; I couldn't stand up and my thought processes went all wonky. I eventually managed to move, put on warm clothes and footwear and dug up the heater and put it on full bore. I am now cold but not shivering.

60 degrees ! That's not cold.

 What is going on?????????????????????????????????

Could your hemoglobin be running low? anemia?

Before Carl started dialysis he could NEVER get warm.

I have had that.  My son was looking at wondering what the heck was going on.  Sorry, I do nor have an answer for you. (My hemoglobin has been low)

I'm thinking the shaking ?  Is it like the whole body shaking?  I'd get to a h ospital if it is uncontroable.  Could be your heart or a strong allergic disorder in blood flow.  Happened to me twice.
Whatever, don't sit there at 60  degrees freezing if you are still shaking while bundled up.  Get help.

It was whole body but definitely brought on by cold.

how's your BP? it might also be a bit low? do you have a tester at home? I have a little unit I use when I worry that my BP is a bit low.... either that or I look at some pics of the women of IHD....  :rofl;

The weather changes are a bit crazy.. some of the older patients in my unit complain that they feel it a lot more when there is such a big shift in the weather patterns.

Sorry for you Galvo, you have done the right thing calling for help.  When John gets the shaking of the body all over like that it has turned out to be a urine infection. But most of the time he is always cold sitting top of a radiator most of the day. Hope you feel better soon.

2007 - March Diagnosed with a Horseshoe kidney and bladder cancer.
2007 - June One kidney, Prostrate and Bladder removed with stage 4 cancer. Urostomy

Even after transplant I still feel cold and shake. When I'm sick though and have the bad shivers, it's usually something else going on and local doctors take notice. More than my tx center does and then complain why I didn't go to them. Hello I was there when this was happening and you shrug it off, local doc took action and found infection.

     -cataract surgery twice on same eye (2000 - 2002). another one growing in good eye

Well! I have returned. Was admitted to my local hospital, then transferred to the larger regional one. Spent some time in Emergency then in Intensive Care. Diagnosis was "sepsis" but what variety and from what cause, they couldn't find an answer until Thursday when the labs identified the common old E-COLI bug. Broad-spectrum then specific anti-biotics apparently have done the trick in clearing it up. I've just got home and I'm so glad to be here. I have been sicker in my life but I've never felt sicker! It was truly horrible.

But it's an ill wind etc. They suspected (reasonably but wrongly) that the chest cath was the cause of the infection; so they whipped out the cath. They hummed and haaed about using 'fisty' as he has just turned 7 weeks. But the CNC (boss dialysis nurse) reckoned it was OK and away we went. So 'fisty' has now been used 3 times and is flourishing, and I have missed out on being terrified about its christening.

So, all is well. As ever, your kind words and thoughts are so much appreciated.

Home haemo 1980-1985 (self-cannulated with 15 gauge sharps)
Cadaveric transplant 1985
New upper-arm fistula April 2008
Uldall-Cook catheter inserted May 2008
Haemo-dialysis, self care unit June 2008
(2 1/2 hours X 5 weekly)
Self-cannulated, 15 gauge blunts, buttonholes.
Living donor transplant (sister-in law Kathy) Feb. 2009
First failed kidney transplant removed Apr.  2009
Second trx doing great so far...all lab values in normal ranges
