So I am back to work "full time" after 3 months of short term disability.  Basically, my company only let me come back because they are required to accomodate me under the ADA.  I am a sales rep and I work from home.  However, since I have to be at dialysis by 3 Mon/Wed/Fri, they cut me from 40 hours to 32, even though I will work all 5 days :(

They also are putting all these crazy requirements on me and warning me that I'm being watched closely by the higher ups to see if I can perform my job  >:(

Its frustrating - and I honestly would rather just not work.  But that's not an option, I have a mortgage and bills to pay!  Its just not easy going back to work when you feel like there's even more pressure to perform than what there was before, which was a lot!

Anyway, i'm just venting.  Don't get me wrong, I thank God for a job and great benefits and that I feel well enough to work this much  ;)

I have three words of advise:   Document, document, document

They cannot put special "requirements" on you other than what it takes to do your job.  And it sounds like the "watching you closely" is a veiled threat.  Start your journal from day 1.

I had a lawsuit against me based on ADA so I found out a lot.   lol   I (management) won but the law is on your side so  document.  If anything happens, it is their responsibility to prove there side....

Maker, that is downright nasty!!! Dan is right, document, document, document. Then if they fire you and it is unfounded you can sue their butts off.

Maker are you able to change D shifts to Tues/Thurs/Sat? Would that help any? I have been on that roster and that helps me spend more time at work (doesn't that sound funny?) being that I can get 3 full week work days in and 2 half days. Of course my work would be cool if I did Mon/Wed/Friday because I just have an awesome boss who would never put "requirements" on me like that, but maybe shifting D might help you better achieve your work goals? Just a thought.

No, I looked into this.  The latest shift at my center M/W/F is 3PM, T/Th/S is 11AM ::)  I really need to get me some home hemo, but first I need to get me a partner!

And thanks everyone else for the documentation advice!  I went and bought myself a notebook this afternoon and I will carry it with me and write down everything I do.  You are all very wise  :2thumbsup;

Maker, I'd make sure you write down dates, times, statements made, etc. if I were you...  I agree with the others , something is very threatening and wrong about putting on the pressure like that.

Hey Lori, only just noticed this thread. Hope work is going ok now, I know you have been off a bit with your catheter problems. This all looks like really good advise. I hate the thought of anyone being shitty at work for something you have no control over. Anyway hope they are being ok and you are enjoying being back back at work now.  x x x
