H1N1 FluMist and Vaccine

the following was put out by my tri-county health department (colorado) but the information is useful.


according to the cdc, the priority groups currently eligible to receive vaccine include: 

-  pregnant women
- parents/caretakers/siblings for children younger than 6 months, including caregivers in infant rooms
- children/adults 6 months through 24 years of age; children from 6 months to 9 years of age will receive 2 doses of vaccine - the second within 3-4
  weeks of the first dose.
-  health care personnel with direct patient contact
- people 25 through 64 years of age who have certain medical conditions that put them at higher risk for influenza-related complications including: chronic lung disease (like asthma), heart disease, diabetes, spinal cord or muscle illness that causes problems with breathing or swallowing, hiv, kidney disease, liver disease and/or blood disorders, having any disease or taking any medication affecting the immune system.

amazing as it sounds is the vaccine is FREE through the health department. i have a 4 page list of clinic locations and times. just bring a picture id and stand in line.

I got mine today.  I have been surrounded by people that have the flu.  I work in a hospital and can't wait for my vaccine to take full effect.  I'm afraid of this flu!

I am afraid of this "flu " too but I can't get the vaccine yet even though I do my husbands needles for hemo dialysis and I am a teacher right in the midst of the H1N1.  They gave vaccines to all the prisoners here though!!  Sort of doesn't make sense to me.

In close quarters (like prisons, Army barracks, etc.), the flu can spread like wildfire.  And then the prisoners will give it to the prison guards, who will then spread it throughout the community.

It is suspected that the deadly 1918 flu was spread by soldiers in close quarters, who then brought the flu home to their communities.
