Update on Boxman

I just called Boxman to see how he's doing. You're not going to believe this. He was crossing the street in his electric chair, going to his local coffee shop when an 81 year old woman hit him in the crosswalk! It's been a month since the accident and he's been recovering from broken bones, road rash on his face, and pulled muscles! He still has his wonderful sense of humor and great attitude despite the challenges he has faced this year. He had the finger amputated and that was healing pretty well, but the doctor's decided to undo his fistula to get more blood flow to that hand (the pinkie finger was also injured in the accident) so he's now got a permacath. Poor guy, he really needs a break! If you'd like his address to send a card or note, I am sure he'd appreciate it. Send me a PM and I'll give it to you.
Love you Mark! Hang in there!!

Oh Mark, I hate to hear all this. That 81 year old woman doesn't need to be driving. Some people just don't know when to quit. Prayers are going up that you will heal quickly and be up and about again.

Just got off the phone with Boxman. He sounds good, despite still struggling with health issues. Ongoing circulation issues due to his diabetes continued so he has had both legs removed above the knee. He's healing slowly, using a wound-vac, and learning how to transfer in and out of a car. His local city provides transportation to dialysis 3 days a week. He seems to be coping well but most of his time revolves around medical stuff. Wounds on his hand don't heal and they are trying different things to remedy that, but he doesn't see much improvement. It's hard for him to type so he uses the computer very little. As I read back over what I have just written it sounds pretty glum, but if you heard his voice you'd know that he's got a positive outlook and no self-pity -- he really is an amazing guy. Even if you don't know him, please consider sending him a note or postcard or anything - just to let him know we care. Thanks so much.
