I got another blood infection so the nurse has me running IV therapy the last 2 hours of my tx.  She had me hook into the saline line and run it by gravity,  It would not run well and blood backed up 1/2 of the line.  Seem to me I am going against the pump and not winning.  If anyone has had IV fluilds introduced while on the pump, how did you get it in?  I had thought about the clamp right by the filter??  This is a yuoung nurse and not very good at her job yet.  Any suggestions?????

Sorry, I don't have an answer, but will be watching for any solutions. I have not heard of any way of doing it presently.....

She is just new.  It's very common, and very easy.  Sounds like she just had it in the wrong port, or a clamp was on.  There are several clamps and if she is new, she just probably left one clamped.  It is harmless, although, you won't get all of the antibiotic is it backed up.  Hopefully she restarted it.
