Are there any other science fiction fans out there besides little old me?  I have a few sites to share if anyone is interested.

If you like Harry Potter, you have to try Harry Dresden.  Jim Butcher's Dresden Files books are truly amazing.  I took his latest to my last iron transfusion.  Is it rude to laugh out loud to yourself in a room full of sick people? (I hope not - I couldn't stop cracking up.)

Eragon and the next book were good. I loved in the book whenever he needed to move the story along, or get the hero into the bad guys hands, he ended up knocked out by something.

I've only read the first Eragon one, but I liked it.  Must be nice to have your own family publishing company to get your stuff published nationally while you are still a teenager!  (I admit it; I'm jealous!)

Big X-men fan myself.  Have the movies and video games for the PS2.

I really liked "Land of the Lost" also kitkatz.

All of the shows named so far are good.  I'm not a real big fan of the new Battlestar Gallactica though, they changed too much for my tastes from the original show.  I think it could have been a show of it's own with a different title.  I have a couple of British sci-fi shows that I like.  Dr. Who (both the older ones and the new series now in season 2), and Red Dwarf.  You can see Dr. Who (Doctor Who if you search it) on sci-fi for the second season of the new series and BBC America for the first season of the new series.  You can find Red Dwarf on BBC America.  You can also buy both Dr. Who and Red Dwarf on DVD.

I am a big fan of Octavia Butler's books.  I've read all of them.  Also love Margaret Atwood's sci fi books.    So Kit Kat, you are not alone....

Count me as another card carrying nerd :)

Land of the Lost.. now THAt takes me back to the 70's.... I remember thinking those Sleestaks were scary as a kid... and I thought they coloured crystal things they used in those pylons to control the weather and stuff were neat.

I enjoy old and new BSG.. I think the new one has gone in a great direction and I am enjoying it despite how far behind we are down here...

I have just seen a few episodes of Heroes (cough cough) and love it. Think it will be great though the first ep is officially starting here next week.

Red Dwarf is classically funny show with a SF twist.. very clever specially in seasons 1-5 or so. It got a bit tired after that IMHO.

I also enjoy reading George R. R. Martin's A Song of Fire and Ice series... just fantastic work.. pity it takes him so darn long to write each book! :)

other great shows: Babylon 5, Blake's 7, Space: 1999, the various Treks, Quantum Leap and so on....

I just finished a book (back before some recent eye trouble that has limited my on-line time lately) I think you'll like if you like science fiction that hangs together knowing what we know about physics - Sun of Suns (Virga, Book 1) (Hardcover) by Karl Schroeder . It is the First book of a promised trilogy and I am looking forward to the next installment. It is hard for me to refrain from saying anything but reading it without really knowing anything about it was a great pleasure so I will reserve the choice to know more to you I am sure Amazon can provide details but let me just say that their space travel is in wooden ships and it seems perfectly plausible.

Maybe a IHD Sci-Fi book club is in order. I don't know anyone else who's read Sun of suns. I gave my copy to a buddy and I'm still waiting for him to start it. I'm aching to talk about it.

Hey Bill and others,

I listen to a couple of podcasts in this arena while I'm on the machine that help pass the time, and if you are having some issues with reading it might be something cool to do if you have a MP3 player handy.

I listen to the Slice of Sci-Fi podcast, The Babylon Podcast and the Treks in SCI-FI podcast (amongst others). They are all good shows. I also enjoy the ExtraLife and GeeksOn podcasts, but they are not really about Sci-Fi.

I find those things really help pass the time during dialysis AND I can keep up to date with what's going on!

Anyone watched Farscape?
To far behind on BSG to catch up since cable moved Sci Fi to digital and then waited to get digital cable.  Heck I missed Stargate coming to a close, uggh

KitKatz, I loved that Star Treck about the whales too.

Here are two old, but very good Sci Fi movies:

Forbidden Planet (A real classic)

Robinson Caruso on Mars 
(If you haven't seen this your missing a really good flick in spite of the sort of silly title. Great feel good ending too)

If one was to gather up everything I have done in my life and then calculate percentage of time spent on each activity, I think that time spent watching Star Trek would win hands down... going to school/studying? Nope, Star Trek wins... socializing with friends or family either living out here or living in the computer? No again, Star Trek still wins! And, I have loved and am still enjoying every minute of it. The original is on every morning for the hour before we have to leave for dialysis.

Kitkatz, did you make it to the Star Trek Experience while in Las Vegas?

Movies:
Star Trek 4 - The Journey Home (the whales one)
Star Trek 8 - First Contact (I loved Zephram Cochran as an accidental hero, and the actual first contact)
Star Trek 9 - Insurrection (slipped by practically unnoticed)
(I have also been appalled at some of the absolute garbage dumped on us in the form of Star Trek movies. The writers have committed treason against the name Star Trek and all of us Trekkers out here)

Due out on Christmas Day 2008 - Star Trek 11 - Star Trek (Kirk and Spock pre Star Trek with other actors playing them)

Another movie (non Star Trek, but noteworthy)

I love all the Star Treks. I watch the old Capt Kirk ones during my early morning dialysis sessions.  Even as a kid, I liked to read scifi. My two favorite authors are Andre Norton and Madeleine LeEngle.
