Hello,
My name is Randy, I have dialysis in New Port Richey, FL.   I have been on it since March.
I am a 53 YO male.  I hate it but, I have no choice in the matter.

This seems like an interesting forum.

BTW I am having fistula surgery this AM and I am sort of nervous about it.

The people that work at Gulf Coast Dialysis are abssolutely TERRIFIC.

Thanks for listening,   more later.

Take care,
Randy

Thanks, everyone,

My fistula is in my left wrist.  It will take some getting used to.  They said I have to be real careful for
two weeks until it heals, then about a month until they can use it.

I am not too sure about a transplant.  I am way overweight, and some of the people that I have talked to
said it did not work out so well.

My dialysis goes pretty well, as long as I eat something while it is going on.
Otherwise my sugar drops real low and I start to get cramps.

It would help if I could contorl my fluid intake, but if I could do that, I would probably not be on dialysis.

Oh, well, life goes on.

Take care,
Randy in Clearwater, FL

Hi Randy! I had my firstula surgery earlier this year. First one failed after 10 days but the 2nd one took. I have small viens. Anyway, you are in the right place! :)

I have learned a few things here.

If your hand feels numb at all (the one with the arm your fistula is in) tell them right away!

Don't carry anything heavy ON that arm that might affect the fistula. You want it to develop big.

Don't worry about other people with huge fistulas. A guy in my unit said that if it will be big it will get big fast. If it doesn't get big then don't stress over it. (I was stressing lol).

Learn as much about your fistula as possible. Learn what works best with your fistula.

Oh and  :welcomesign; welcome to these forums!
