This will be me...... Next spring.... I earned it.

« on: September 14, 2009, 03:58:40 PM »

Well I received a email from my doctor and I will be starting D next week.  Wish me luck.    Today is my birthday and I went fishing for salmon out in the ocean, caught one and lost it.    No fish for me this time.    That's ok.   Still have plenty in the freezer.    Well that's the news.

You lost a salmon.  How sad!

Just wanted to tell you that dialysis is not nearly so bad as the thought of dialysis.  Though the first few days can really be hard emotionally.   I've been doning it now for four months.  I'm an old pro now.

Don't let it ruin your birthday thinking abou it.  Dan

Tyfly my husband has been on dialysis for 12 years now and he is doing fine. Like dw said , he also says that the thoughts of it is worse than dialysis.  Take care.  :cuddle;

Take a blanket and something you can read with one hand. Four hours seems like a lifetime when you have nothing to distract you.

Tyefly, I don't know why we get that kind of news on our birthdays.  My co-ordinator called me on my birthday last month  to tell me the infusions I had didn't change my situation.   Happy birthday to us!   I just didn't tell anyone, so I could enjoy my day. But, my family has bigs mouths, so they called everyone in North America   :rofl;   :rofl;  :rofl;     Glad you went fishing.  There is something powerful and calming about the ocean.   You have so many "pros" here to help you through the next few weeks.   Sending you hugs and special birthday wishes   :cuddle;

Happy birthday, Kathy!  :bestwishes; :bestwishes;

You haven't been felling that great, so I have a hunch that dialysis will improve your well being!  :2thumbsup;

The blanket is a MUST!!! And warm comfy slippers to keep your feet warm.

Kathy,
A Happy Birthday to you!  My thoughts are with you as you make your next step. When I started dialysis many years ago, I use to say how thankful I was to have dialysis to fall back on.  Back then, the only treatment options were hemodialysis and transplant.  After my second transplant failed after having it for 18 years, I started back on treatment 10 years ago, I was so happy there were so many more options.  You will find what works for you.  I know I couldn't wait till they had my access in place, and had me on treatment.  I knew I needed it, the toxins were doing there thing. I felt so much better after my first treatment.

Many are with you on this journey, you have taken on the task of educating yourself and being an advocate for yourself.  Please keep posting on your progression.  Wishing you well...

I wish you the very very best of luck.

If your experience is anything like mine,
you'll find that dialysis isn't that bad at all!

But dealing with insurance companies is.   ;D

Ah, thinking of you Kathy.  And happy birthday.  My dad's birthday is also 14 September - we had a big 80th for him yesterday - even though he dies in 1992!!  Any excuse for a party around here.
Will be thinking of you next week.  As Dan said, the thought is worse than the reality.

Yes I can email my doctor anytime and he will answer usually that day.   My insurance.  Kaiser is really great like that.  I can see all my lab results on line too.   The whole format at Kaiser is well done

thx everyone for the good wishes   I am very confident and I feel that IHD and everyone here has helped me to understand this dialysis life.   I will be starting next Tuesday in-center and should be doing nxstage training in a couple of weeks.   I was thinking about in-center nocturnal but there is a waiting list of three people head of me.   So. Nxstage is it.
I have talk to my transplant team and I am ready to send in my live donors for testing.   So I am thinking that no matter what good things are bound to come out of this.
       So.   Now I am either going to get drunk.  Or go hiking for 10 miles maybe a overnight try not to get lost in the woods trip.     Maybe both!!!
     Once again. Thx for the support.         Kathy

This picture is teasing you!

Starting dialysis can be scary, but it is doable. If you are starting hemo, bring a snack, a cup of ice, a blanket, headphones and a book. Sunglasses might be nice.

Kathy,
We have a waiting list as well, so now they are going to open another in-center nocturnal shift on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday.  I will be moving to that shift as soon as they start it.  I'll have my weekends freed up!  There are 14 beds at our unit...all them full now.  Five people are supposedly on the waiting list.

I remember when my husband started. Went through a hooneymoon sorta period for a few months. I never saw him doing so good. Don't let the dialysis control your life. You can still live a great, rewarding life and I know you will!
