Here's what happens when you forget to remove the waste line from the saline bag, and then get distracted by other stuff. I'm glad we caught it before the saline bag exploded!

We have forgot too Adam W but it didn't get that big!! Only 2 bags of saline - which is 200ml can run in our drain bag. We use fresenius not nxstage.

Hi Adam,
We did this so many times, either forgot to hook up the drain or disconnected and re-hooked to the saline bag. the way I stopped it was to put a needle cap on the yellow line when i disconnect the same as I do when I disconnect the red & blue lines. I know these lines are clamped and nothing can contaminate them but I feel better with a cap on them also.

I could have had that but with blood instead. I don't know how it happened but I left the two white saline clamps open, started treatment and was adjusting my husbands lines. I looked up and the saline bag was empty and I saw blood going up the line to the bag. Luckily I caught it just as it was entering the bag. I don't know what would have happened if I had left the room when I started the cycler. Needless to say my husband didn't take off any fluids that treatment. We can only take off 2.1 or he cramps. He got 1/2 bag of saline and he had fluids to remove before we started.

Just keep the white clamps clamped, and switch bags. I had this problem once and switched white lines from an unused cartridge to keep everything clean.
