I saw my neph today. I was so nervous about going. Two weeks ago my blood tests showed a creatinine of 3.2, BUN 79, and potassium of 6.0. She told me earlier that when my creatinine reached 3.0 she'd refer me to start the transplant evaluation process. She took me off lisinipril and had me retest. Today my creatinine was 2.3 and my potassium was 3.3. I'm gonna have a banana and a baked potato and I'm NOT gonna start the transplant evaluation process yet.  :yahoo;

I think my secret mostly has to be genetics.

I try to eat reasonably well, but I sure don't obsess over it. If I really want that dish of ice cream with choc syrup, I have it -- I just make sure I avoid any other forbidden foods that day. I try to get plenty of exercise and spend a lot of time outside in the summer (My vitamin D level was *very* high). I make sure I get 8 hours of sleep every night. I try to avoid high-stress situations (traded in a high stress job for a low stress job). I just try to be "normal."

I'm not sure who was more surprised -- me or my neph. She keeps telling me she thought I'd be on dialysis years ago. I went in to my appointment sure she was going to refer me to a transplant center and have me schedule a fistula setup.

Have some ice cream for me!

  I was told that Lisinipril does that and most nephs will take you off of it when your kidney function gets worse.  My creatine did the same thing when I went off my lisinipril  but went back up after a short time.

Thanks all! I know my reprieve is temporary so I'm trying to enjoy every minute of it. I had a latte today, ice cream yesterday. I even drank a glass of milk. I'm thinking about getting a potato to bake (gasp!). It's hard not to feel guilty about eating these things since for so long I've thought of them as forbidden.

I'm feeling much more perky off lisinipril, too. It had been "normal" to feel like I was going to pass out upon standing up every time I bent over. I can go out to pull weeds in the garden now and bend over without giving it a second thought.

Honest?  :thumbup;

I appreciate knowing other peoples' experiences. It's what I expect to happen and If I didn't already expect it, I'd rather be told now than be devasted by an unhappy surprise later.

Ok good, I wrote it and rewrote it about 10 times because I didnt want it to sound rude.  I am so brutely honest and not many people like hearing that kind of stuff.
