Hello, I've found this forum and thought i would introduce myself (I'm not very good at this). My name is Dan, I'm 31 years old I've been diagnosed with CKD about 9 months ago. Well I went to the ER in Dec. 08 for pneumonia and found out that my GFR was 19 (didn't know what GFR was till a month ago). I was hospitalized for 4 days. Then 2 weeks later i went back to the ER for dehydration and found out that my spleen and gall bladder are enlarge and that i have Hodgekins Lymphoma. I was hospitalized for a week. My PCP referred me to a Neph. My Neph told me at my last visit that my GFR is 13 and wants to talk about starting dialysis soon. It's kind of scary, I don't know much about CKD or Hodgekins Lymphoma. I have many questions that i would like to ask. Any advice, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

I like to think IHD.com is the best place for information about kidney disease, dialysis and treatments on the net for patients.  So welcome to the boards!

Welcome to our community!  I totally understand the feeling of being thrown it at the deep end!  But what we both have going for us is - IHD!!!  This is the place where I received the help to cope in my first days of dealing with this renal challenge.  This is just the place for information, support and even fun at times.  You will find that this is a genuine family  :grouphug; - a group of caring and sharing people who will be with you every step of journey.  Just keep reading and keep posting so we will know how you are doing.

Hey Dan glad you found us.
Well GFR of 13 is for sure time to start thinking dialysis.  you could stay at 13 for awhile or slip down faster then expected it is tough to say.  But what i learned from this site when i joined that my Neph never mentioned was that there is more then one way to do dialysis.  I thought it would be needles time off of work and sitting in center.  At everyones beck and call except my own.  Then i learned of PD.  Which i do at home on my schedule.
So i would say study your options and see what will fit best into your schedule.

This place got me out of denial and into reality.  it truly is the best site on the net for dialysis patients and information.
