I'm confused!  Again!  I didn't know the HealthCare bills was near ready.  Is this something different than the thing Congress is supposed to be working on???

Jean, can you be more specific?  What page(s) show this, and what is it that doesn't look good?  Is this the 1000+ bill, the Kennedy bill, or both?

Thank you,

On page 358 or 359 it talks about the mentally retarded.  This term has been outdated for many many years.  Which to many is a sign that the bill itself is likely old and outdated.
Sadly this hasnt been brought to light by any in congress. Mainly due to the fact that like the last few MAGOR bills passed they were not read.

I dont see the need to pas this in such a rush.  Pelozi is truly going over the top yet again with claims she can get it passed.  Many are blaming the Republicans for it not being passed already.  The dems seem shortsighted not to see the bluedogs in there own party are against this bill.  It is there own party and infighting for the reason the bill hasnt passed already.  Remember the dems have total control of the house and senate.  So if something isnt passed it is an in office problem.  They are but trying to deflect there own inability to compromise within there own party.  Thank God.

I dont see how everyone thinks the government can run this program.  Look at SS and Medicare.  Cost overrides galore and mismanagement.

Why the rush anyhows????   This will effect us for decades to come.  I want the bill READ and this done right.

the one I got was supposedly on page # 425. It says that all people who are on medicare MAY recieve counseling every 5 years to be counseled on ending their lives. It says it is an "entitlement". Hopefully this will not be passed. When a country starts pushing its sick and elderly gently under the bus, it is a doomed country.

The section you are referring to is all about "Advance Care Planning Consultation" such as advance directives, including living wills and durable powers of attorney, and their uses.

Also, providing "an explanation by the practitioner of the continuum of end-of-life services and supports available, including palliative care and hospice, and benefits for such services and supports that are available."

Also "that the treatment wishes of that individual will be carried out if the individual is unable to communicate those wishes, including requirements regarding the designation of a surrogate decisionmaker (also known as a healthcare proxy)."

There's nothing wrong with those issues and reviewing them every five years.

They have nothing to do with "pushing its sick and elderly gently under the bus."

Page 425 of Health Care Bill - Listen to this interview Fred Thompson's Radio Show interviewing Betsy McCaughey (pronounced McCoy).  Or look it up on www.fredthompsonshow.com, under interviews.

On page 425 it says in black and white that EVERYONE on Medicare, (will include all Senior Citizens and SSI people) will go to MANDATORY counseling every 5 years to learn and to choose from ways to end your suffering (and your life).  Health care will be denied based on age.  500 Billion will be cut from Seniors healthcare.   The only way for that to happen is to drastically cut health care, the oldest and the sickest will be cut first.   Paying for your own care will not be an option.

Now, CALL YOUR PEOPLE IN WASHINGTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Tell them to read page 425 if they don't read anything else.  Surely  some of them have parents.

CF

"ON PAGE 425 OF OBAMA’S HEALTH CARE BILL, the Federal Government will require EVERYONE who is on Social Security to undergo a counseling session every 5 years with the objective being that they will explain to them just how to end their own life earlier. Yes...They are going to push SUICIDE to cut medicare spending!"

Okay so I read through pages 425 to 434 and I'm not sure I read anything about the government pushing counseling sessions that encourage people to commit suicide. What I did read was that every five years those people included would get counseling regarding how to create things such as a living will and power of attorney documents so that their loved ones would know how to make decisions for them if they become incapacitated and to be able to make decisions for them. Also, the doctor would have to explain the types of treatment that the person can decide to deny or not. It said absolutely nothing about ways to end your life or suffering. I don't see anything wrong with this really other than a person should be able to say to their doctor, "No thanks. I don't need the counseling" and opting out of it.

This is why I wanted to be able to read the actual bill itself (not that I'm going to read the whole 1,000+ page document). It seems that all the editorials written and the commenators are stretching the truth a bit to get people hyped up about the bill.

Thanks Okarol for providing the link so that when we hear these individuals on the radio and TV we can look up and read for ourselves what the bill actually says!

As a side note, it is 4am and I am having a touch of insomnia since I have only slept about 2 hours... I could have read the entire thing wrong or missed the part that Jean was referring to! Maybe someone sane can read it and tell us what they found!  :rofl;

What I see on 425 and on is pretty much what we all have already, advance planning directives are important to have in place for everyone, how many times have we seen someone "kept alive" on machines even when they had stated, but not put in writing, their wish to not have their life artificially sustained. I did not read anything about cutting or urging less care for someone to end their life early or unnecessarily. Perhaps someone with more knowledge can point out what I may be missing?

Please, everyone, accept my apologies for my post. I received that e-mail from a friend who is usually very knowledgeable and accurate. Irresponsible of me to post something without first checking it out, which obviously I did not do. I am sorry if anyone was overly upset about what I wrote and you can be certain I would not do that again. Again, I am sorry.

No worries Jean.

At least concerned citizens are reading bills that congress just pass needless and carelessly without reading.
And before it is said and done and they put in extra pages in the middle of the night prior to the vote only god knows what will be in this bill that they seem needs to be pushed through so FAST.
Thank god for the bluedog Democrats or this bill would be passed already if it were good or not for our country, Luckily some people are looking out for us.
