Hello all!
I just started dialysis after 8 years of having my kidneys fading away. I signed up for a home program (I'm in Canada) and I have Vlad (my machine) at home for a month now. The idea is to be able to do dialysis during sleep...which I haven't been able to. At this stage...I feel overwhelmed. It has taken over my life....and the worst part is that I don't feel like a million bucks or near that.
I'm more than happy to share my experience with all of you.  :thx;

Uninterrupted in-center (self-care) hemodialysis since 1982 -- 34 YEARS on March 3, 2016 !!

No transplant.  Not yet, anyway.  Only decided to be listed on 11/9/06. Inactive at the moment.  ;)
I make films.

Just the facts: 70.0 kgs. (about 154 lbs.)
Treatment: Tue-Thur-Sat   5.5 hours, 2x/wk, 6 hours, 1x/wk
Dialysate flow (Qd)=600;  Blood pump speed(Qb)=315
Fresenius Optiflux-180 filter--without reuse
Fresenius 2008T dialysis machine
My KDOQI Nutrition (+/ -):  2,450 Calories, 84 grams Protein/day.

Where in Canada are you? I have been told they don't have home hemo yet in my city but they do have it north of me in London ON and Toronto.

Thank you for the wellcome. Answering your question, I am in British Coulumbia. The home proram started 2 years ago, as a pilot and it's working just fine. We are about 100 people on the program right now and keeps growing. The machine is a Gambro machine, the size of a skinny fridge, AKS-95 to be exact....a bit noicy (like having a washing machine next to you) but it does the job. I have the machine for a month at home, lots and lost of work but better than going every day to the clinic. I can dialyze anytime I want, but for now I do it 4 hours a day 5 days a week. Don't feel like a million bucks, but now I'm humgry again and not that much nausea....how about you? ;)

I still go to the dialysis self care unit 3 times a week for 3 1/2 - 4 hrs each run. They don't have home dialysis in my city yet but I have pushed and pushed until they agreed to finally start doing buttonhole on me. When they get it in my city I hope it is the kind where I don't have to make any plumbing alterations.
