COAL GROVE, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Everyone loves a happy ending, especially when it comes to sick kids.

We have just that sort of story about 10-year-old Peyton Black, who was born with just one kidney and desperately needed another.

WSAZ.com's Randy Yohe has a fantastic follow-up to a heartfelt story he brought us at the end of last year. That was a tough holiday time for Peyton and her mother.

Having lived through a decade of extreme medical ups and downs, Peyton needed a transplant desperately.

On Tuesday -- out in the brilliant mid-May sun -- Peyton's classmates and her community welcomed her back with more than open arms during the annual Dawson Bryant School District Field Day.

A few short weeks after a successful kidney transplant, Peyton was able to rejoin her Dawson Bryant Elementary 4th grade class. She had endured trips three times a week to Cincinnati Children's Hospital for dialysis.

But a new year brought new hope for Peyton. After waiting for someone with a healthy kidney to die, Peyton's 30-year-old cousin Scott Black found he might give the gift of life.

The school district wide Pennies for Peyton program collected more than $3,000 to help the family with transportation costs and other expenses.

Proceeds from a spaghetti dinner Friday night at the high school cafeteria will do more of the same. That's because Peyton still has to travel to Cincinnati Children's Hospital two or three times a week for follow ups, but that will wind down in six months or so.
