My dear daughter

« on: May 05, 2009, 11:00:19 AM »

My hubby's birthday is Saturday and I don't know what to get him.  Money is tight for us and he will get mad if I spend too much money, so I was thinking of doing the following:  I found a paint a tie kit on clearence and I was going to have my daughter paint it for him and then buy him a new dress shiirt - which he needs.  We are going to have a birthday picnic for him and spend the day at the park.  Does that sound good?

Sounds really good Bette.  I always think that the best gifts are the ones that involve thought and planning.  The picnic sounds like fun and especially if you make his favorite stuff.  Enjoy your time together.

Those are the kinds of gifts that make me very happy !

4 years ago, my daughter was a poor student and told me 'Mummy I don't have any money to give you a great gift for your birthday, but I know you always had a desire to have locks (rasta hairdo) and that is what I am going to do for you'.   She fixed up my hair and has been caring for it every since.
Those kinds of gifts are extra special!

It sounds like a perfect day.  I am uncomfortable with expensive, big gifts, but I love spending time with those I love.  The day at the park will be wonderful.   Tell him we all said    :birthday;

This sounds wonderful, bette!  I love hand-made gifts because I know the person making it was making it just for ME!  I'd suggest that you try writing something to your husband, too -- maybe a letter, maybe a poem, silly, serious, with illustrations (even if you're like me and can't draw a good stick man).  I love it when someone writes something personal to me, and I always save them and re-read them when I need a little "pick me up."  These are some of my most treasured possessions!

Who wouldn't love that??!  Seriously, a hand-painted tie is a wonderful idea.  Other ties will get tossed through the years, but I can guarantee that one will be kept.  What a special day you have planned. It's not about the money - it's the memories, and it sounds like your plan is full of memory making.
