Hello all-
I have been married to a dialysis patient for three years now (dated for three before that). He has been on dialysis for over five years and has had three kidney transplants in his life. His last kidney transplant occurred over five years ago and only lasted for 1 1/2 years. Before that his transplanted kidney lasted for over 10 years. He is back on the transplant list but we have been told it will be 6-8 years.
I was excited to find this board as there are no support groups in our area and I am constantly challenged by my  husband's chronic illness and struggle with the day to day issues it creates. This is the first time I have dealt with any significant health issues with someone who is close to me.

Hello KTangel,  Welcome to not only the best website (in my opinion and i am sure many others),  regarding this matter,  not only are we an awesome website, we are a fantastic support group.  Please feel free to read through the, literally,, thousands of posts.  Alot of info here and if you cannot find what you are looking for, please do not hesitate to ask questions or post comments and/or concerns of your own.  Look forward to hearing more from you...

Uninterrupted in-center (self-care) hemodialysis since 1982 -- 34 YEARS on March 3, 2016 !!

No transplant.  Not yet, anyway.  Only decided to be listed on 11/9/06. Inactive at the moment.  ;)
I make films.

Just the facts: 70.0 kgs. (about 154 lbs.)
Treatment: Tue-Thur-Sat   5.5 hours, 2x/wk, 6 hours, 1x/wk
Dialysate flow (Qd)=600;  Blood pump speed(Qb)=315
Fresenius Optiflux-180 filter--without reuse
Fresenius 2008T dialysis machine
My KDOQI Nutrition (+/ -):  2,450 Calories, 84 grams Protein/day.

Welcome to our site.  Please start with the Site Rules and Regulations.  That gives you an example of what is expected as a member.

I never remarried because I didn't want to BURDEN someone ever again.  If you think for one moment that you spouse can't tell what you are feeling you are wrong.  If you want out get out and let them live.  They will be better off.

My boyfriend is here for the same reason you are! :) I have told him many times to learn all he can before getting into marriage with me as I don't want him to ever regret his decision! I am glad you are so supportive!

KTangel, your husband is so lucky to have you.  My wife takes very good care of me and I know it's a burden on her.  I don't know what I would do without her.

Welcome!  Glad to see another wife here!  It definitely is challenging at times.  I've been with my husband the same length of time you have been with yours (married 4 years, together 2 years before that).  I hope to see lots of posts from you about your perspective.  We can all learn a lot from each other.  Check out the Spouse/Caregiver section too.   :)
