Cowboyinvestor From Frot Worth - hello

Just a message to introduce myself. Have been on transplant wait list for over three years now, and yes, I am sick of dialysis. I was diagnosed with ESRD in 2004. I am still trying to figure out what to do to get my career back. It seems like the only people the DARS folks want to help are those wanting to get back into fast food careers (OY!) anybody that was in a professional career gets no help at all. I guess this is typical of Texas. Partner and I moved here to help out mom in law who had to have multiple bypass surgery, and then I managed to get sick. We are here from the LAX area and want to move back....but how to do this is now a mystery to me. It seems like we are stuck here until after the transplant. Look forward to hearing about your experiences in dealing with the job market when you are listed but not transplanted. Career suggestions welcomed. Thanks Dave Nichols [david_nichols@earthllink.net]/email]

Welcome. If you figure out that career while on dialysis thing, let me know.
The being stuck thing resonates as well. Sorry.

Sorry, no help with job suggestions. I was able to keep my job through dialysis. I hope you find a way to find employment if you are up to it.

Welcome, Dave.
I was reading something the other day about this being a good time for entrepreneurs. Do you have any ideas of computer based services that you might be able to perform while on dialysis?
Just a thought.
You have come to a good community and we look forward to your posts.

We are glad you found us. I am sorry that you are "stuck". We do get tied to our transplant centers, doctors, etc. One of the hardest things for me, was giving up control of many factors of my life. I have no advice, just wanted to tell you that you are among friends.

It is hard to start a new job when you are on call 24/7 for a new kidney. I understand completely. My daughter is listed out of state as our insurance doesn't cover a kidney transplant at the Childrens Hospital in state.
Although we have decided that the out of state hospital is best for her, it is definitely a challenge being oncall 24/7, knowing that you can be called and have to jump on a plane at a moments notice and be in another state for at least 100 days. My dad told me to just explain my situation to potential employers..HA!! I think that he needs a reality check. Recently, I have been leaning toward self-employment where I can work from anywhere, at any hours and through the use of wireless internet and cell phone stay connected and be able to make a living. I just don't feel that my current situation, which may be my situation for quite some time, lends itself to the corporate world.
I hope that you get a kidney soon.
