Tonight is the last episode of ER.  I'm getting my popcorn and my tissues ready as we speak.  The show has been on for 15 years and believe it or not, it's like I'm losing a friend. 

I remember when I was twenty years old and just starting dialysis.  I went to a hospital unit and there was only one TV on each side of the room so we had to share.  Of course most of the people next to me were super old and they either didn't want the TV on or they didn't even want to hear it and were always telling the nurses to turn it down.

Well, ER would come on the nurses (who I loved) would gather round and watch it with me.  It was late so not that many patients were there at that time.  And being a hospital show, I felt I always had a connection although I was always sure I had a new ailment after watching some of the episodes.

Then lately with Carter dealing with dialysis and a transplant, it has again felt like home.  I will miss the show so much. I've watched it over the years and I can't believe it's over.

Started dialysis when I was 20.
Got a kidney transplant when I was 25.
Kidney failed at 37 and I began my second journey on dialysis.

I'm watching.  How many times can they make me cry tonight?  I am very sad to see ER end.  I have loved it since the beginning.  :'(

Oh man.  I cried quite a few times.  Hearing the theme music as the camera panned out in the end was sooooo sad.  Sniff, sniff...

06/85 Diagnosed with type 1 Diabetes
10/04 Radical Nephrectomy (Kidney Cancer or renal cell carcinoma)
02/08 Started Hemodialysis
04/08 Started Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD)
05/08 Started CCPD (my cycler: The little box of alarms)
07/09 AV Fistula and Permacath added, PD catheter removed. PD discontinued and Hemodialysis resumed
08/09 AV Fistula redone higher up on arm, first one did not work
07/11 Mass found on remaining kidney
08/11 Radical Nephrectomy, confirmed that mass was renal cell carcinoma
12/12 Whipple, mass on pancreas confirmed as renal cell carcinoma

Wasn't the ending great?  The very first episode ended with everyone outside with the ambulances and then going inside---Dr Green turned to Dr. Carter and asked "are you coming?"    Last night ended with Dr.Carter asking Dr.Green's daughter "are you coming?"   Whaaaaaa----tears flowing!!  And then the theme music and the reality that it was over ---- started crying again.    So many moments----I cried when the gentleman with Aids declined chemotherapy because he had already lived 20 years longer than his friends and it was his turn.   And the husband whos wife was dying.  They had known each other for 72 years!  Since they were in sixth grade.  Seeing him lay beside her after she died was heart wrenching.      I know, I know----it is a tv show!!  I need a real life   :rofl;

Oh man I know.  I can't believe it's over!  I cried so many times.  I loved the whole theme.  They showed the circle of life of the ER.  That new intern represented Carter and his beginnings.  Uh, awesome.  I think I'll watch it again tonight.

I always liked ER but wish Dr Green never died.
