starting to feel the effects of the immunosuppressants

My daily regiment:


when i wake up
1X amloc (amlodipien) 10mg for blood pressure
1X Concor 5mg Beta blocka

at breakfast
Cyclosporin 200 mg (anti rejection)
5 X Prednisone @ 5mg (anti rejection)
1 X Pyridoxine (vitamin b6)
3 X isoniazid (to protect me against T.B tuberculosis)
2X Lasix (diuretic)

At Supper
Cyclosporin 200 mg (anti rejection)
2 X Azapress / imuran (anti rejection)

When i go to bed
1x Co tareg / Co diovan (blood pressure)
1X omeprazole 20mg (for heart burn)

 

The first side effect i got was soon as i could eat or drink after the transplant i had Severe heartburn thanks to cyclosporin. it was really bad felt like i was drinking or eating hot lava and could not sleep at night.

been doing fine since then but i noticed the past few days that my feet were tingling and feeling slightly numb. and are also a bit swollen. i watched my fluid intake and I'm not overloaded. my output is very good and weight is fine. and since yesterday my ankles are really sore and I'm having a hard time walking.

also my blood sugar went from 7 which is normal up to 10 which is not good. i watched my sugar intake for the day and it went down to 4. so i think i just need to watch my sugar intake.

i am going to my transplant unit for my weekly checkup tomorrow.

anyone have these problems. did they go away. my feet are killing me

Jenna had no side effects but she is on Cellcept and Prograf.
Has your blood pressure gone down since the transplant?
Exercise is good to help lower your blood sugar, even just walking daily.
Hope the soreness in your ankles goes away, not sure what causes that.

My blood pressure has gone down perfectly since i have been home. normally 128 over 74. has not gone higher than 138 over 80.
i did find out that imuran can cause joint pains. will discuss this with the unit tomorrow.

Watch the sugars carefully.  Prednisone can REALLY increase that.  Other symptoms may\should level off after a while.  Good Luck, and keep posted.

It's not just the sugars you need to watch, but what food and how much. This was a coomon thinking among diabetic doctors till they finally realized that portion control and other foods cause sugar to rise. Meat is the slowest for the body to process, so sugars won't rise fast, it is absorbed gradually. Carbohydrates and simple sugars (glucose) are more easily absorbed into the body. So lets say a 100% juice is druank and you go test your blood in 15 to 30 minutes, well your blod sugar is going to rise because the body can absorb it quickly. This is used to help treat diabetics with hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). As for the other foods, my memory isn't to clear, so I won't say since I haven't had to follow a diabetic diet in 8 years.

Also your blood sugar is affected by prednisone and can cause some swelling. I posted this in another forum, but I'll post it again for you about side effect. One is the whole article and the other is just the chart on back of the page.

just a update my cyclosprine leves are too high 300 is considered toxic. my levels this week are 415 so reducing from 400mg a day to 300mg.

my predisone is being reduced from 6 to 5 pills a day.

feet still paining and i have developed a lovely rash on my back

I had a bad rash on my back after a couple of weeks after transplant..disscussed it with the Dr and said it was the high doses of prednisone and that it would go away as my  dose decreased...and now im on 10mg 2xday and no rash...my ankles swell too  and  it was the norvasc (bp med) that was culprit there so it may be one of your bp meds...  everything will get better...Chris
