I'm sorry to have to inform our Members that Flip has passed away. He passed on sunday of a heart attack. I received the news just now and I don't have any other information available. I am making calls to gain anymore possible information.

Sluff  :(

Flip died a week ago yesterday, but I just got the e-mail last night. I have exchanged a few e-mails with "Donna" and here is a little more information:
IHD Member:  lruffner

"He wasn't alone, I was with him and I am grateful for that.  We had
gone to visit my mother who had a stroke last week (she's doing
great)  She lives a couple of hours away and we left after he rested
a few minutes following dialysis.  About a half hour from the
hospital where my Mom was, his shoulder starting hurting as it had
been off and on for a few weeks.  Even though we arrived at the
hospital after visiting hours and had to enter and exit through the
emergency room, he refused to have a doctor examine him and insited
on going back to the motel.  He kept saying that he had an
appointment for Tuesday and it could wait til then.

Donna

Thanks lruffner for the notification.

Flip's name was Phil?  I never knew that.  My heart is sad.  He was always so upbeat and positive.  What about Cujo?

We have had so much good news lately and I think this comes as such a surprise to us all.   We had such a great time meeting Phil and Donna in Chicago. We had lived in Kentucky years ago and it was fun talking about familiar places with him.   Flip was extremely intelligent; comes from a very educated family. His view on dialysis was inspiring and his humor helped many of us.   I just don't want to believe this - not Flip.

Twirl, I thought of you immediately when I heard the news.  You two loved to tease each other.   :cuddle;

What sad sad news.  I feel shocked, stunned and will miss Flip greatly.  He was such a valuable and valued member and I will notice the absence of his unique sense of humour.  My condolences to Donna and of course to Cujo, both of whom will be reeling from this, I feel sure.

RIP Flip.   :'( :'( :'(

Oh Dear Lord.  I am shocked.  I was thinking about contacting you Sluff to see if Flip is ok or did I just miss a post when I was in the hospital.  This is so sad.  I am sure he will keep the angels in line.  Rest Flip.  Life is too short and we need to make sure we make use of every minute as he did.

I feel so fortunate to have spent time with Flip and Donna in Chicago. He was funny and bright and full of life. I will always think of him that way. It's sad to hear that he is gone. Godspeed dear Phil.

I am shocked and very saddened. . .

Flip was such a reassuring presence on this site.  He could truly get to the heart of a topic and could say in one line what it took others paragraphs to say.  I always looked forward to hearing his point of view.  His humor and intelligence will be very greatly missed.

Rest in Peace, Phil.   :grouphug;

shocking news... I am so sad to read this. flip was so much fun and had such a great attitude what with his vodka and red bull(?) amd all that. Funny guy and he never let it get to him. I guess this is a reminder that any signs of ANYTHING (eg: the shoulder pain) shouldn't be ignored and checked out - it's way better to be safe and feel like a dill for worrying about nothing than letting something potentially dangerous slide.

We'll all miss you flip. You were a great member and gave us all so much.

I keep the "Tribute for Members Lost" board shrunk down because it is so difficult to see the list continue to grow. Someone special once told me that even though it hurts, our lives are better for having known those we have lost.

Flip was the ultimate optimist. No matter what he was posting to, he always turned it to something positive. Nothing could get him down, not even ESRD and dialysis - an incredible love of living.
We will miss him and his spirited way.
