I know everyone here has at least at one point or another, run into a computer problem or question that they can't answer and simply don't know who or what to ask.  Well, since there is not much I can offer this community, most computer related questions I can answer so feel free to ask away.

I can even offer some performance tips for the more savy users which I may post at random times so stay tuned.  Even if I can't answer the questions put to me, I'm sure someone can.

I couldn't agree more speed.  I had once tried looking for employment with the geek squad but was turned down because I don't have any microsoft certs.  ::)  Anyone have any idea how much it costs to get an MCSE certification?  ( Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer )  It's over $25.000.00 total!  I don't have that kind of money.  :'(

Here I go, Oh Resident Geek!   My computer has been acting up so badly.  I could not get IE to work sometimes. Well, I now use Mozilla Firefox, and that is going well.  But my Windows Explorer also does not work.  I cannot click on My Documents, My Computer, any folders on my Desktop, Control Panel, etc..
But I also have to say that sometimes that is not true.  Sometimes everything works, including IE.  But I never know from one session to the other if I will get to use those things.  The thing is, I can open documents from inside programmes.  Also, I can explore my computer using the browser and inputting c:/Documents and Settings.....
Mr. Geek, what can I do about this?  I do get around the limitations but it is annoying!

Okay, first thing I need to know is:  what operating system are you running and if and what service packs are installed?  Next thing I need to know is, have you installed any applications like google or yahoo tool bar addons or other tools or utilities like them?  Also, have you done any regular maintenance such as defrag and checkdisk lately?  Windows explorer problems are usually very difficult to find but not imposable to fix.

If you can, bookmark this link.  It usually has very helpful info.

I have Windows XP Professional, but it probably needs updating. I do not know how to update it.  I do have a Yahoo toolbar installed, but before I reformatted my computer, I always had that, and had no problems.  Haven't done any manual maintenance recently.

Okay, do me a favor and go to your control panel and double click the "system" icon.  I would like to know what the system info is.  It would look something like this....

Note.  Do not share your Registered to: info!

System:
  • Microsoft Windows XP
  • Home Edition
  • Version 2002
  • Service Pack 2
And the computer info would be helpful as well.

You know bajanne2000 is on Skype, so this may be much easier with voice.  :)

Well in Angies defense members are supposed to READ all of the threads in this section: http://ihatedialysis.com/forum/index.php?board=31.0 before making their first post. As stated here:

Please come to this section to read the various threads concering the rules of the site and various other important threads. I ask that you please READ all of the threads inside before you start posting for the first time, when you have read the thread inside, please head over to the Introduce Yourself section, and tell us something about yourself.

And had you followed the rules you would know about "Skype"  ;) ;D >:D ;D

Now about the l337 speak, Duh? do you really think I didn't know that? lol I called it "geek speak" as not to confuse some members more than "pwned" did.  ;)

Okay, in my OWN defense, as according to this forums rules, I did in fact read all the rules before posting and made my first post in the introduction thread here.  Hello everyone.  And FYI, I did post in the skype messanger thread here BUT, it did not come up when I ran a search for it.  Please explain why the search tool failed to pick it up.

If you don't click on the top thread (the one that says, "I Hate Dialysis Message Board") then it will ONLY search in the section you are in.

Angie is correct. That is why I reccomend using "Advanced search"  :)

Bah!  What use is the basic search feature when it's only limited to the thread you are viewing?  Advanced search should be the only one that lets you single out certain threads.

Anyway, it was obviously my mistake.  One that I won't make again.  Thanks Angie and Bill.
