How many languages do you speak?

French/English/Dutch/Spanish.

French and English are my mother tongues.

I use all four every day. I speak French with my Mom, my little brother and most of my friends, English with my older brother, my sister, some of my foreign colleagues, and dozens of random people, Spanish with a few people including a colleague of mine I work with every day. And Dutch is the dominant language at work.

I'd like to learn new languages, but it takes lots of time and you're never finished perfecting those you do know.

I took German in high school.  I remember enough to understand my sister's mother-in-law when she starts swearing about something.

I took French in college.  Very little of that actually stuck with me.

I learned a bit of sign language when I was working.  One of my interns was deaf.  Again, mostly the swear words stuck.  But those translate pretty easily!

I'm a native German, so I speak the language of course, plus I learned English in secondary school.  I also took Latin in school, but don't remember much of it (it does help with the medical terminology though).

I just spent two days at an International conference where I was part of the interpreting team (English to French)  It was a conference about ways to deal with HIV/AIDS in the Caribbean.  There was also a contingent from Central Asia (Kergeztan, etc) with an Russian interpreter.
I don't think we did as good a job (english to French) as we could have, since we were not given any of the presentations beforehand, and the speakers went like a TGV (French high speed train) but it was great fun.  I made a friend, a french doctor who now lives in Guadeloupe, and I got paid!

I generally only speak american english but I can speak a little spanish.  I live in a hispanic neighborhood so I have been learning a little here and there but I still don't know enough to form a full sentence or actually join in on a conversation.
