Shopping therapy

Have you ever used shopping therapy to make yourself feel better? What happened? What did you buy?

I was talking to my friend Barbara yesterday. I said "Do you ever just want to go buy something? Just a little something, just to make you feel better. So you start shopping, and you keep looking, but there's nothing you want to buy!" She said it has happened to her too.

Last time I bought shoes. I need boots for winter, and I found some I could afford. So it was practical AND it made me happy too.

We did retail therapy this week. New furnace and had our front porch wrapped in vinyl. We decided to stay in our house a while longer and want it maintenance free. No more outside painting for me.

My husband used to say...we came in the store for milk so guess all the stuff in the buggy is free..right? My friends daughter and I used to go shopping with a list and had to keep adding items to the list to justify what we brought home...

I ride to the grocery store in my chair for therapy. I have so many boxes of hamburger helper I'll never eat them all...Boxman

I shop in the frozen food aisles ( window shop )

When I shop for clothes these days, everything has to pass one of two tests - it either has to be "fabulous" or an absolute bargin.

I used to window shop for therapy.  Now I am a book slut and frequent the thrift stores for used, cheap books to read.

I bought myself a new cell phone last week for my Birthday.....46 years old now ,

I dont shop much but Karen  Arrggghhhhhhh..
She buys stuff and like a good person we give stuff to the salvation army or goodwill once or twice a year.
Well last year i helped her get stuff into the goodwill bags we donate.
I saw at least   AT LEAST three shirts of hers still with the tags on them...

So i quess her therapy is buying and not wearing some stuff....

I also like to get something once in awhile. Sometimes just a different scented laundry detergent, shampoo or different toothpaste. Even if I have toothpaste I open the new one, just because. I used to reward myself about my trips to Pittsburgh with a new pair of socks at an awesome dollar store on my way home. They closed that store, so the sock shopping thrill is gone.

I don't have money for retail therapy anymore, unless I'm shopping at the Salvation Army.  25 cent books - ahhhh, heaven!

I dislike shopping although I like it when I find what I need quickly and at a reasonable price.  I've bought most of my clothes in second hand shops for years now although I always buy new for shoes and, yes, underwear.  My neighbourhood has many people with lots of money so I get very nice clothes in great condition, some with the original tags on.  I get many "label" brands, even designer labels for a fraction of their original cost.  My husband does almost all the grocery shopping except for the cottage when we go together on our way up there. 
I don't mind window shopping but I'm a saver not a spender in general and I find I don't need much stuff.  I could be very happy, living very simply as long as people would lend me books.

My shopping weakness is plants for the house and garden.

My local library is trying to get a millage passed for more money.  They are passing out a little flyer listing what services they offer to the public and the approximate cost if the library wasn't there to offer them any more.  Hmm. . . an average of 7 to 8 books a week, average of $15 a book. . . Yikes!  And I borrow Dvd's and videos all the time, too. I sure hope the millage passes - I'd hate to have them shut down my little local branch.  It's in walking distance, so I don't even have to spend gas money.

I have never been a shopper. My daughters just don't understand me!   I hate going to the mall.  I do love looking for bargains.  My retail therapy is done in fabric or craft stores.  They are my weakness.

I love second hand stores.  and I've passed it on to my son.  When he started getting interested in clothes in high school, I'd often say that we should check the second hand store first just in case there was something good there.  I was so happy when he called me within the first week of college to tell me that he had scouted out a great second hand store.  He said, "Mom, you'll be really proud of me when I tell you this."

I'm a bargin shopper.  It's been years since I have paid full price for any of my clothes, shoes,
or underwear.  I also bargin shop for groceries, too, especially now that they are so high.  It's
a good feeling to come home and know you haven't broke the bank.

I do shopping therapy but when I do, it is like I go in compulsive buying mode........like I will buy 2 of everything (well almost everything) but I like to grocery shop more than anything but I do shop at Goodwill ALOT too.   As a matter of fact, Goodwill was my first job & I loved it!!!   I got cool clothes and very stylish clothes too.   It also came at a great time too as I was in high school at the time so I was "cool".    (or so I thought I was)     My dear Mama would have never been able to buy me brand name clothes as we did not have alot growing up but we did not do without what we NEEDED either!

When you live in a small community you can't bargain shop a lot!!!  I usually wait until I go to the larger town an hrs drive away(where hubby used to have to go for dialysis).  The only "real" store there is Walmart!!!  There are 2 large chain supermarkets there as well for grocery shopping. I usually stock up on fresh meats, veggies and fruit.  As for good well stores really only one the Salvation Army thrift shop and not a lot to be found there!!  They do get a lot of clothes from me - some still with the tags on!!!  I liked it when I bought it but never wear it!!!  I don't spend a lot of money on clothes usually wait for sales.  I usually get money for Christmas gifts so I wait until the first of the year and get the most from my money!!!

We are putting a new set of stairs in our entrance and that is costing us $$$$$.  We ordered spindles (wrought iron ) yesterday.  They cost over $600!!! Still have to buy the oak posts and railing.  Have the steps and flooring for the entrance already bought.  Hubby will do the work himself! so we can afford to spend a little bit more on the materials!! I just have to get him motivated to do it lol!!  He'd rather be doing "stuff" in the garage!!!  When we built the house 21 years ago we sort of put a set of "cheap" steps there temporarily and they are still there.  Those steps we are doing now are the permanent set that will stay there no changes!!!!

I love to buy purses and shoes(vans). Otto has already laughed about how many more I'll be buying once he's out of the hospital. He's gonna have to build me a bigger closet once I'm done

and I have one with a basset hound on it

Yeppers. My sister does the purse thing. She loves to look at bags and purses.

I love boxes. I have one from Mexico. It is an ugly little thing.  I will get a pic up soon. I have to find all of the boxes in the house and join them together in a family photo.
