I strongly feel that if the breeder was unable to sell the dog, the next option should have been to try and give the dog away. I realise that breeders can't always be giving dogs away (breeding is darned expensive hobby), but the dog is of no use to her breeding program, and clearly she didn't want the dog as a pet. Why keep it in a carrier forever more, and have to pay to feed it etc?

I have a number of friends who are dog breeders, and I have certainly seen practices that I'm quite happy with among some of them, but I know others whose practices horrify and anger me. In my view, if you bring any kind of life into this world, you are responsible for it and ensuring it's a comfortable and happy life - if you can't provide that, due to the numbers of dogs you already have or for whatever reason, then send the dog to someone who can! No one in their right mind would cage a CHILD for its life time!!!!

joe paul, i'm sure you will enjoy your new family member very much. some people just shouldn't be breeders. i was once given a pure bred, show quality samoyed, because she was very shy and wasn't doing well at the breeders with all his other dogs. now that's someone who cares about his dogs. we had smudge for over 15 years, and loved every minute of it.

JP, that pic of Bucky says it all- that is one
happy puppy for sure, teehee!
Imagine, being condemned to a cage or crate
just because you have an overbite---that breeder
certainly does not have much of a heart, or
was just plain too lazy to try and find that lil
guy a good home!

One of my dogs (Pup) has an overbite.  I think it's so cute!  He also snores when he sleeps - or maybe he's just congested.  When he plays (and that's all the time) his tongue hangs down double the length of a normal dog tongue!  He's hilarious!!!

Joe Paul, Bucky is adorable. I just bathed and cut Willie's and Winnie's hair and they are not happy with me. Do you have problems with gunk around his eyes. I can't stand that and I'm forever plucking at both of them. Len tells me to leave them alone. I also have to keep their little butts clipped or I end up with messy butts. Yorkies are suppose to be little laps dogs, but the 2 I have are far from that. They are rough/tough little cookies. When I get my new digital camera figured out, I'll post pictures. Keep the ones of Bucky coming, he is precious.

Thankyou. To answer your question, no he washes his eyes just as cats do, licks his paws then scrubs them. Thank God he loves a bath. Bucky HATES having his toe nails trimmed though, he turns into a different dog. I have to have a female friend of mine do his nails, for some reason he will let her. Other than his nails, he is low maintenance. My wifes brother used to breed show Yorkies, I do not envy that. He used to wash them every week then spend hours brushing them all out, and yes their eyes get messy. They are a cute dog, but to much work for me.

Keep cleaning those eyes, if they are the type that get gunky! Do NOT leave them alone......... from me (a former dog groomer  :) )

Kit, poor Missy!!! She is just not having a good year is she? Poor baby.

Williie and Winne are adorable!!!  They look as if they are so much fun to be with!

I agree with Nina, it's so heartwarming to hear your stories of your animals, and of your love for them, and their love for you.

Sorry to see that Missy isn 't having an easy time, Kit!
Sending hugs to her from my two Tzu :grouphug;

Kathy, Willie and Winnie are just adorable. Shihtzu also
can have a problem with eye-gunk.  I usually take a
clean washcloth and very lukewarm water, to get it
out of the corners.  Once, when picking up Rocky from
the groomer, a young guy came in with a S.Tzu whose
eye was completely shut from mats and eye gunk-I felt
so bad for that poor baby! Shih tzu can be high maintenance,
I used to keep our first one in long coat-it was about 1/2 hr
daily brushing and combing. Now 'Buca and Knucklehead(Rocky)
are kept short- and they are very happy!

Anne,

I keep Willie and Winnie in puppy cuts most of the time, just easier to take care of. I have let their coats grown long and they are just beautiful but way too much maintenance for me to keep up with. Winnie will run for the couch when I have washcloth in my hand. They are smart little critters. Buca and Rocky are great names. Shihtzu's look like a lot of grooming work too.

kitkatz, How is Missy doing? Sending her puppy hugs.

I used to have a bassett that got eye-gunk all the time. The vet said she was allergic to grass...how cruel is that? A dog that's that close to the ground and is allergic to grass? She had lots of health problems, but was an absolute love, and awesome when my son was a baby. Unfortunately, the ex got her and the other bassett in the divorce, and I got the cats. I know three of the four have gone on to a better world now. Haven't talked to the ex in a long time, so I don't know about the younger bassett - who looked just like the Hushpuppy dog, by the way!

Let me tell you about mIssy the dog.

She had leg surgery again.  Then she pulled out her stitches and we had to take her in again.  Big oozing wound on the leg. Full anesthetic on her again.  Icky poo.  We coned her head and she took the stitches out again!  She went back to the vet and he restitched her again under a local. And we put a bigger cone on her head.  Now a week later and restitiching twice she is finally healing. Whew! My husband caught the dog outside whacking the cone into the bushes trying to break it off of her head.  He brought her in and had to duct tape up the cone.  Sigh!

It is always a bad thing when your dog has to wear one of those things but when my yellow lab was alive she had to wear one once and I was coming home from work one day and I found her walking down the side walk wearing her lamp shade like it was no big deal. it looked so funny, made my day...Boxman
