Thanks everyone  :grouphug;

I'm using the tiny dry dog bone treats, as that's what I have been using to reward him for using the bell to go outside and for going potty outside. He's a little love bug, and just always wants to cuddle and so I understand he may never get comfortable with haveing to be alone for a few hours sometimes, but I hope to just get him with being comfortable going in his crate knowing it's safe and warm and that I will always return to him and take him out. So yesterday, I put him in his crate while I was watching tv and he was done playing and ready to just lay down. He whined at first, but I didn't give in, and he fell asleep, while asleep I got up quitely and went and made my lunh and so forth and came back he woke up, and I let him out and gave him a treat, kinda like, 'I left but hey, see i'm back'. Ill do this twice a day everyday and see how it works out next time I go to the store or dr's.

You guys are great!  :cuddle;

Sounds like your doing a great job Angela  :2thumbsup;  I know your dad was against you getting a dog, how does he feel about your dog now?  Is he warming up to it or is he like Sam and just figures eh, its a dog?  :popcorn;

He is totally in love with Cody, and in fact, when he gets home from work, Cody goes crazy, and gets his love from my dad and then they sit in my dads chair and cuddle and play. Usually once my dad is home, Cody spends most of his time with my dad until bedtime,  :lol; I knew he would change his mind once he seen him in person.

Hey Angela, a kennel is a really good idea. Nelly has never been in one which was a huge mistake on my part. She has never been left alone before. She goes to work everyday, and I have to take her to the puppy sitters if I want to do anything in the evening. It is out of control and a little on the crazy side. Even when I go to Calgary to see the kids I have to take her to the puppy sitter for the weekend. My kids all have cats and Nelly hates cats. So this is going to be my first weekend taking her with me to Calgary. The girls have trimmed their cats claws. I don't know, might just be a race and chase bark fest. I have also , one time so far, left her home alone. She just laid by the door and waited then as soon as I came in she ran around to every garbage she could find and dumped it. Guess she showed me. I just wish I had got her a kennel right away and not spoiled her so much. She's worse than any kid I ever had.

Goofy - it's Sam's loss really. I can't explain the positive effects having Celeste around me has had. Of course I'm a biased animal lover but I know she just helps me deal with the trials and tribulations of dealing with everything so much better. It's like when she sits on me and looks at me (what I call getting a free "cat scan") and I can just stroke her soft fur and have her purr at me.. it's like she's _willing_ to absorb all my frustrations and upset and worries and tension and give me unconditional love and support back.... I truly believe if I had to face dialayis and all the rest of it without her by my side it would be that much tougher (of course I'm single, so that's a whole other issue.. at least Sam doesn't have that one!).

Y'know though I bet even if he doesn't touch them if he's away or something sometime a part of him WILL miss them....

I so agree wtih Richard. Animals are very important. My babies know when I am at my lowest, and will lie on the bed next to me, and purr.  My guess is that Sam WOULD miss the animals if they were not there. After all, just because YOU don't see him do it doesn't mean he doesn't pet them....Animals are so irrisistible!!

Richard you are so right, i love it when Xena comes to me and just lays on me, purring and staring at me with those "i love you eyes", it's either that or "dont you think its time to change my litter box look" or "i can see the bottom of my bowl" look, lol,  either or, she comes to ME and makes ME happy, I just think Sam is jealous of her cuz she waits until he gets out of bed and then she comes and sleeps on his side of the bed (but curled up on my arm)
And to be honest MyssAnne, i have seen pet Jane, although it is a rare happening, it does happen so i guess i should just be happy it does happen every once in a blue moon. (i am sure Jane is happy too)  ;)

Ok, this is probably a stupid question, but oh well.

I need to get my puppy's nails cut. Here is the questions I have:

1) Can he get his nails cut at any age?

2) Can dog's be declawed like cats?

Be careful when getting them clipped Angela, i just seen this on T.V.  it is possible to cut them too short and it could hurt them,  there is a nail filer for dogs nails and i cant think of the name of it right now but if you do get them done, please get it done by a professional  :thumbup;

the first time you get the pooches nails done, let the vet do it.  then ask them to show you how to do it.  its easy if you can hold the dog still, and he lets you.  with my dogs its a two person operation.

Hi,
You have to be very careful not to cut into the
"quick" or the pup will really hurt, and it will
bleed.  You can go into a groomer and ask if they
will just cut his nails, It is no biggie to them and
probably only cost afew dollars.
As far as declawing a dog, I would have to say
no-never heard of anyone doing that
Sending hugs to that cute lil guy,
Anne

Kim,

He is a Shih Tzu, correct?  I just love them! We
have had Shih tzu since 1990. I also did S/T
rescue at one time.  Mr. Rocco is our 4th Shih Tzu,
and is now 4 yrs old.  Lil Miss Sambuca is going on
15 yrs, and suffers from kidny failure.  She is currently
on a no protien food and is doing very well.
I think they are the most loveable lil guys going.
