Diesel's marble headstone, in our garden (yes, he's buried there, and yes those dates are right - he was nearly 18).  :'(

Cycobully, i can imagine the heartbreak that you went through at the time of his passing but i must tell you, i bet you he died one of the happiest and luckiest dogs ever to have been loved by such wonderful people.  What a beautiful way to remember Diesel.  :grouphug;

Well, he certainly wasn't happy on his last couple of days, he was extremely unwell, and no doubt in a lot of pain - he was having seizures and I suspect he had complete kidney failure. We did what we had to. The vet and nurses at the surgery we took him to were very professional, but even the nurse had to leave the room crying - I didn't notice (I was hysterical), my husband told me about it later. She was discreet about it at least.

But yeah, he had a good life and I took him everywhere so he was very fit and healthy until his last few days. God I miss him.

18!  Wow!!  What a wonderful life Diesel had with you guys.

Skye is only 10 1/2 and we don't know if she will make it past this year.  Her hips are really bad and now she is getting cataracts  :(.  She is still eating and still playing, so we don't feel it is time to put her down.  I know I will be a complete wreck when it happens, she is my baby.  Everyone who meets her just loves her.  My MIL tells me there will not be another dog like Skye, she just has the best personality.  She really took to our adopted son.  He knows she isn't doing well either and is a bit sad about her.  I love his thinking though.  He says we will see her again in heaven and she'll be able to run and jump and do all the things she can't do now.  He also says she'll be our guardian angel.  Pretty deep for an 8 year old!  I think she will be too!

Here's my girl!

What a honey. It is sad that we only get a short time with our pets. The love they give unconditionally is the same love we should give our fellow man.

having my three cats- I've never considered having a dog, but that dog you have there skyedogrocks , is my favorite breed. When I was a small 6 yr old kid I was afraid of dogs until one that looked just like yours took a liking to me, and insisted on being my friend her name was peppy. Later in life-I knew another one named dusty, great,great dogs!!

My Missy dog is overnight at the vets. She injured herself last week and has been limping ever since. She was also tipping her head, it seems the left ear has some kind of infection in it.  I miss my baby!

These were my kids when I lived on my own before health shit hit the fan  :rofl;
I had a double yellow headed Amazon parrot. I had her since 3 months old till she was 11 until I had to give her up due to health. My dog was, well a large sized shetland sheepdog (sheltie), that I also got when he was 3 months old. Picture is from around 1997 or 1998.

That dog looks a lot like our old dog Coco.  What a cutie

Well Missy needs knee surgery. She tore her tendons and she is still limping.  We have an ear infection too in the left ear and lots of meds for it.  I have to call the vet and set of surgery times. And come up with 1400 dollars.

To bad there isn't pet  health insurance. Well a reliable one since there have been attempts at it in the past. Sorry to hear about your pet.

We have a number of pet insurance policies available in Australia, are they not common in the US?

I have never taken out insurance for my pets though, so I don't know how good any of them are. Most of them don't cover routine things like vaccinations. And you can only take the insurance out up to a certain age - e.g. if your dog is over 8 years old already, it's too late. (Both of mine are too old).

When I looked into it a few years back, it was pay first and then get some money back. The vet I worked at didn't take insurance and other vets I have been to do not offer it either. Probably cost more than what is worth in profits or something.

I know what happened to my dog, I gave him up to a shetland sheepdog rescue center. I am not exactly sure what happened to my parrot though. Since I moved back with my parents, when I came home from dialysis, she was gone. I have an idea that she may be with a breeder that I took her to before because she was just getting to ummm anxious. My dad knew I took her to the breeder before since it is a parrot only pet store who hand raise baby birds. I just don't talk to my dad and still pist off about it.

Thanks Sluff, nice looking pup too. I have aspecial liking to white dogs. I tried to get an all white German Shepard before I got my sheltie.. He turned out to be a great frisbie dog. To bad polaroid pictures suck.
