My poor old dog-- this heat is just too much for him. He has hip dysplysia and is having a hard time getting around. We live in a bi-level and I have to help him walk upstairs.  He is 13 and named Styx (I had a lot of teenagers when we got the dog!!!!!). He is my buddy. Stays right beside me all day long. He knows who  feeds him!

Awww Paris, i'd love to see pics of Styx (hey i made a rhyme) :P   But i am glad to see at least he is inside with you and not having to lay in the hot sun with his hip like that.  Please give him some love for me, I just love animals  :clap;

I'll have to post a picture.  He is part golden retriever and shetland sheep dog.  He really is a sweetie--but is showing his age.  When the grandbabies are here, he gets a look as if thinking "when will these people take their pets home"!     Goofynina, it is obvious how much you love animals and children. You have a big heart.

He is part golden retriever and Shetland sheep dog.

Goldens are notorious for there hip problems.  I have a lab / golden mix that though only a few years old is already starting to walk like an old lady because of her hips.

That is what we have been told.  He kind of hops instead of walks.  He doesn't want me to touch his back end, but wants me to walk behind him on the stairs in case his back legs give out. We have our routine - poor old guy. But he is good company.

Well folks, Sam did it this time,  We all know how much he isnt an animal lover (like myself) ;)   Well, he was out cleaning the yard and he found a stray dog, he said he just called the dog (to get him out of the street) yah right, :P and the dog came right up to him, soooo, he put him in the back yard with Jane,  (my doberman)  after some butt sniffing, they seemed to get along just fine  :thumbup; so far so good right? hmmmm, well, Sam had been saying, ok, if no one claims him, i (he) is going to claim him and that is going to be HIS dog and we are going to get Jane fixed and blah blah blah,  well,  Sam noticed that holes were being dug in the back yard, we have had Jane nearly a year now and she never dug, well, it was HIS dog digging the holes, so now, he wants to get rid of it, thats not the bad part,  now, my beautiful Jane picked up that dogs bad habit and is digging holes like crazy and Sam is going out of his mind, lol, i think it's hilarious (but he doesnt) :P  We still have the dog, he is 1/2 retriever 1/2 ???   He is a good dog, when we are out there he listens really well to commands, (wish Jane would pick that up too)  This dog has a collar on him so we called the animal control and they ran the number, they gave us the name of the dog and the owners phone number, we called left a message and when they called back, they said they used to have a black dog but it died years ago (how sad) So now, we are stuck with this dog and all kinds of holes in our backyard and if we dont act fast a litter of puppies  :o   *note to self*  CALL VET A.S.A.P.     Well, that is what we've been dealing with lately, how are your pets?   :popcorn;

They are indeed. Golden retrievers, labrador retrievers, German shepherds and rottweilers are all prone to hip dysplasia, unfortunately.

In my breed (bull terriers) it's those darn luxating patellas.

Keep the dog, fill in the holes, and enjoy being grandma. ;)

No! no no no no no no!!! Get Jane AND the new dog desexed NOW!  :2thumbsup;

Awww that's a shame Susie, hope he does find his way home and that he'll be okay. Perhaps all can return to normal in your house now.

This is Lucy - a Cavalier King Charles.

She's 100% Lazy and loves eating and sleeping. Her favorite hobby is mooching from my wife. She has a useless growl around strangers - they suddenly become friends when they pet her. Yes, she's spoiled. Lucy told me to put her picture up here.

Lucy says Hello to everyone! She does expect to waited upon; Lucy also will tell you if she's not getting enough attention. I wish I could bring her with me into the dialysis chair - she's small enough to fit and all she would do is sleep!

Can you just imagine? Wouldn't it be wonderful if you could take your dog into the dialysis ward - imagine what it would do for the general mood of everybody! Especially if she could do the rounds of the whole ward and everyone could spend some time just petting her.

I'm a strong believer in pet therapy. My girl Chloe used to be a registered nursing home therapy dog. Here's a picture of her on Christmas Day 2000, cheering up staff and residents at the nursing home we used to visit weekly.

When I was doing dialysis the first time in Florida, they allowed the Therapy dog to come into my hospital room while on dialysis... made me feel more comfy.. :)

That's good to hear Angela. I thought they may not be allowed due to hygiene reasons or something.
