There aren't called fighting fish for nothing.  The will even try to attack other betas in other bowls sitting nearby at the petstore.

Sounds like lovebirds! lol. If a pair of lovebirds aren't brought up together, it is very hard (sometimes impossible) to introduce them later. They will fight to the death. A very aggressive little parrot, that one.

We had a single lovebird, female. She was perfectly happy, but showed all the signs of lovebird aggression. We didn't even try introducing a mate. I could handle her, pick her up, take her out of the cage, return her to it etc. But if my husband tried, she attacked him.

We never planned to have her. She just flew into our yard one day, and I was worried about stray cats getting hold of her. So we got a cage and kept her. kept an eye out on "lost" advertisements for a few months, but no one was looking for her.

One day we came home, the cage was turned upside down, and she was gone. I suspect a neighbour's cat.  >:(

Well this is my first dog ever!  Andrew and I have been thinking about getting a dog for months, we wanted to make sure that puppy would fit into our busy lives.  Buster seems to be a great fit .  We run a computer repair store and one of our customers came in last week and mentioned that she had some shi tzu's for sale, we thought about it for a few hours and FINALLY decided that we would do it.  Buster comes to work with us everyday and is fitting in perfectly!

And most importantly, get him used to being handled, his feet/paws and ears touched, and his coat brushed and groomed NOW. He will need a coat clip probably every 6-8 weeks as he gets older, and as a former dog groomer I can attest that a coated breed who is not trained to tolerate grooming is quite a nightmare. Not just for the groomer either, but it gets the poor dog into a state of distress.

Not meaning to scare you there  :) Just start randomly (and regularly) playing with his paws/nails now, and looking in his ears, and brushing him. It's hard with a wiggly puppy, but believe me it's WORTH it.

Best of luck with your new baby! I'm sure he'll bring you plenty of joy.

Funny you should say that about his ears and feet, my hubbie has been saying the same thing since we got him, and I thought he was over reacting.  He had his first brush last night and hated every moment of it....

I can't believe the personality that Buster has already!!!

Look at those new babies.  I know that lab mix will keep that teenager busy. Be sure to have the teen walk that dog refularly or the lab inhim will go nuts in the house with nothing to do.  They will chew on furniture and everything else of they are bored.

Buster is adorable.

Oh no, definitely not an over reaction!  :)

Try to make his "grooming" sessions as fun as possible, so he associates being handled/brushed with good times. How? Use treats and praise and play. Whenever he's cooperative, even for a couple of seconds, get iin there QUICK (as in within a second!) and treat him/praise him excessively.

Does anyone ever watch The Dog Whisperer?  This man is awesome, i love to see how he works, i've seen an episode where he had to literally lay the dog on  his side, massage the dog and slowly introduce the brush into the massage so the dog can relate a comforting massage with some good grooming, he makes so much sense  :bow;

When it is on free-to-air television, I do try to watch. I usually miss it - can never remember when it's on. But yes, I'm a fan of Caesar. I was first drawn to him because he clearly loves pit bulls, and since I love this breed too, it is important to me to see reliable, well-educated (in canine matters) people associated with the breed, instead of thugs.

I used to have a pit bull X, and I miss him every day.  :(
