Dialysis RN

« Reply #50 on: November 13, 2006, 09:41:56 PM »

We have eight cats (9 until one of them died mysteriously in August - we have no idea of what; she was only 9 and seemed to be healthy).

I have to confess that I didn't even like cats until our collie, Bonnie, found the first kitten in a wood pile in our back yard in '95; two years later, she found four more!  We couldn't take them to the pound, knowing what their likely fate would be, so now we had five.

We thought that would be it, since our cats made sure that no intruders entered our 3.5 acre lot (and therefore there would be no more kittens left!), but that wasn't the end of it.  In '02, my husband found two white kittens in the middle of the road!  Need I add we kept them?  Now we had seven...

And just this spring, guess what happened?  One of my husband's coworkers announced that a stray cat had left a litter of kittens in her garage that she would take to the pound if nobody took them... guess who ended up with two of them?

So we had nine, and now it's eight (four males and four females).  Although we lost our Bonnie in January '03, our cats have been wonderful companions (need I add that I now love cats?).

DeLana  :D

P.S.  And now you know why I chose this avatar!

Lila & Smudgie

« Reply #52 on: November 14, 2006, 04:31:43 PM »

Our family tells us we have a mini zoo! We have a shepard/collie cross, Sadie Mae who is my hubby's buddy. She's always by his side, which makes me feel a little better about him being home while I'm at work and then we have the Cat Brigade. I have my Pooh Bear, almost 14 yrs old, Buster a maine coon cat that can shed as well as any dog but a complete purr bunny, Scratch a torti who had a really rough start before we got her. She was so thin that you could feel the ridges on her spine. She's come a long way and is a very loving girlie and then the last two are brother and sister, same dads but different moms. They are almost identical, Smudgie is 1 yr 7 months and was my baby, he would sleep with me and stay by my side and then when this last litter was born this past April my husband told the people who had the litter that he wanted the little girl when she was ready to go. We named her Lila and she is a very loving little girl. Smudge is so protective of her it's amazing to watch.

I feel really lucky to have these guys because it keeps me going with everything going on. On a really bad day I get all the purrs, head rubs and in Sadie's case all the kisses I can stand. There is a reason for which I may never understand that these pets are part of our lives.

Kitkatz, I totally understand the keyboard thing...for some reason the computer desk is a shortcut for a couple of them!  :D

I'm gonna try and upload a picture of one of my cats.  Not sure what I'm doing, so if you just see this post and no picture, it means I screwed up.  If the picture does show up, the story behind it is that my sister said she may come to see my husband and me.  She hates cats.  I told her if she came, we offer valet service for her car, and I sent her this picture of the best valet employee in the business.  (hope this works).

Okay, the picture didn't show up.  Can somebody tell me what I did wrong?  I clicked on browse, found the picture I wanted to post and double-clicked on it.  Any advice will be appreciated.   :banghead;

You have to post your post after you browse for the picture.  Be sure to write something in your post before you put the picture
into the post.

1, Go to the post area.  Write something in the post about the picture.
2. Hit additional options. Then hit browse.
3. Browse for your picture.
4. Pick the picture, open it, it will come into the browse box.
5. Hit post.  Your picture will upload automatically.  You have to go back to the post to see if it uploaded to the site.

Be sure your picture is the proper size for the site.  Hope this helps.

Awwwwwww, everyone's pets are so cute!  Especially Bucky!

I used to have two cats that were completely crazy.  They used to hide and "attack" us when we walked by them.  It was sooo funny!  My husband at the time (now my ex) went into liver failure and I had to find new homes for my kitties because I just couldn't handle a dying husband, a daughter, and the cats.  I miss them so much!  I'm thinking about getting another one sometime soon.

PS--I saw the ex through a liver transplant and two years of school, then the son-of-a-gun left me.  I miss the cats more than him for sure!  ;D

This is Murphy, our Himalayan.  I told my sister that if she came to visit us, her car would be taken care of by a valet service.

PMP, please read these two threads before posting ANY more pictures, as you are breaking the picture size rules.

Please edit your post and fix that image, next time I will just delete the pictures if they are too large.

Sorry, Epoman.  I tried to downsize the photo (using the software you suggested) before I posted it.  Didn't know if it worked.  Obviously it didn't.  Don't know what I can do to edit it that I didn't do the first time, so I just tried to see if I can delete the entire post (photo and all) and can't figure that out either!!!

So please, I'd appreciate it if you would delete it for me.   No editing...just delete it.   No hard feelings, really.  Thanks!

It's mostly poor cat. The gerbils bite her if they get near a paw.   (Although she did manage to pick one up and carry it away when the cage got left open by mistake.  She set him and he just stared at her.)

I bought him when I was a kid for $14.95 from an advertisement in the back of Boy's Life Magazine.
