No transplant.  Not yet, anyway.  Only decided to be listed on 11/9/06. Inactive at the moment.  ;)
I make films.

Just the facts: 70.0 kgs. (about 154 lbs.)
Treatment: Tue-Thur-Sat   5.5 hours, 2x/wk, 6 hours, 1x/wk
Dialysate flow (Qd)=600;  Blood pump speed(Qb)=315
Fresenius Optiflux-180 filter--without reuse
Fresenius 2008T dialysis machine
My KDOQI Nutrition (+/ -):  2,450 Calories, 84 grams Protein/day.

Is it different in how we perceive it for a fellow dialysis patient to drink in front of us or talk about it than it is for a nurse or tech to do the same???   I'm not even a little bit bothered by either.  I think I drink vicariously through people and get some bizarre satisfaction but I was just curious.

Haemo-dialysis, self care unit June 2008
(2 1/2 hours X 5 weekly)
Self-cannulated, 15 gauge blunts, buttonholes.
Living donor transplant (sister-in law Kathy) Feb. 2009
First failed kidney transplant removed Apr.  2009
Second trx doing great so far...all lab values in normal ranges

Tricky question. Sometimes I see nurses taking big swigs out of those big drink bottles and I feel a little funny but then I remember they are working 8 or 12 hour shifts and it *is* their workplace - and they don't parade in front of us with lots of drinks etc. I don't really mind when others drink in front of me though sometimes relatives going for cup after cup of coffee is a little distracting.. but hey that's life. It's like when I am out with a friend and they say "Oh I can't have a cup of coffee in front of you because it's not fair!" - well I agree with the sentiment and apprieciate it.. but by the same token if I have invited them to have lunch (or whatever) with me I don't WANT them to censor themselves because of me.. because that makes ME feel guilty because they feel they shouldn't drink in front of me. The only time I object is when family keep offering me drinks!! It's like "duh?!!" Like the other night when I went to visit my sister and she was a bit tipsy from drinkies (that's fine) but about 3 times in a row she's like "Have a drink with us!" and I'm like "uh no... you know I can't" "Oh but sometimes you do go on!!!" and that's when i started to get annoyed....

I sometimes use Bill Peckham's terminology and just say "Ah, you forget I'm not a urinator like you are".  The next time I scowl and third time I use Kit's stick on them.   :rofl;

You guys do NOT want to know how I felt when the rocket scientists at work decided to install one of those water cooler things RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY DESK !!!!!! so now people come right by my desk, right in my line of sight, and fill up bottles and cups and drink the beautiful tempting cool water... Sometimes.... sometimes I could kill someone.....

Probably half the people in my unit bring drinks to dialysis with them, mostly sodas. I wait and have my Red Bull immediately afterwards. I don't worry about people drinking in front of me. If I did, I'd have to quit going to bars.

Diagnosed with ESRD-November 2006
I have had 2 fistuals-neither one worked
I have had 2 grafts the last one finally "took"
I had 3 different catheters from Nov. 06 - Dec. 08
Got on the transplant list - Halloween Day 2008

You can easily judge the character of others by how they treat those who they think can do nothing for them.    I BELIEVE THIS TO BE SOOOOO TRUE!
