A rant, it's long and personal

my father and his sister were added to the title of the house my grandparents owned in san gabriel california when my grandfather passed away. the idea was that when it came my grandmothers time the house would already belong to the kids and there would be nothing to inherit or anything for anyone to contest. it's a thought, it wouldn't take much to add the 4 of you to the title and it would keep there from being a battle if he decided he didn't want to move. it would also make it easier to sell the house if that was what was needed to care for your mother if she could no longer care for herself. and in california if you were to change title and your mother live for, i believe it's 3 years or longer after the change there are no inheritance taxes. that's what happened with my grandparents house and the law probably hasn't changed. i'm hoping that the test will show everything to be ok.

Karol, how was your Mom's biopsy?  Any results yet?  The waiting and worrying is so hard.  I'm still saying prayers.

Thanks for asking paris. Nothing yet. My mom didn't know if she had a needle biopsy or open incision biopsy (she's one of those "if the doctor needed me to know he would tell me" types and has no clue what happened or will happen, preferring not to know.) 
Luckily my sister went with her. They expect results no later than Monday. It was a needle biopsy and the tumor is very small.

Mom just called - the doctor said it appears to just be an inflammation and they will "keep an eye on it for now" - so that's good news! 
What it means long term remains to be seen, but I am happy now!

Your sister’s blog sounds so familiar to me. My brothers and I have been there. My step father was a raging alcoholic. He verbally abused my mother as well as physically abused her. But through it all she never would leave him.  It made for a difficult childhood to say the least.  He finally died about 10 years ago from the effects of his alcohol abuse.  He left my mother penniless. He had cashed in the life insurance policy so he could get cash to buy alcohol. He maxed out a dozen credit cards by buying a ton of stuff he could pawn; He was using the cash to buy alcohol. He was perpetually drunk the last 8 to 10 years of his life.
It was extremely frustrating dealing with my mother during the last few years of my step fathers life. She would constantly call me up and cry to me about what he was doing to her. Like I could fix it. I even learned later that the only reason my mom stayed in that relationship was because she didn’t want another divorce under her belt and be ashamed in front of her sister who has been married to the same man for 40+ years.  She put us all through that mess of growing up with a raging alcoholic so she would have to face the shame of another divorce.  Crazy!! Then after my step father died she acted like he was the best thing since sliced bread. To hear her tell it he was just an angle sent from God. She acted like she lost the best thing that ever happened to her.  No one could understand her reaction. To this day she still gets weepy when the anniversary of his death rolls around.  She knows that no one in the family wants to hear it. I usually let it go in one ear and out the other.
